Default One month in feedback notes...

Hi all---

Not that anyone cares, but I thought I would offer some feedback of my 2106 F150 Platinum 4x4 (well, I hope that at least Ford is listening).

Background: I have owned every make of domestic and foreign full sized truck. Marketers probably hate me because I am not a brand loyalist...I base my decisions solely on what I believe to be the best available tool for the job, not by what emblems are on the grill (although that stupid goat that Ram has emblazoned everywhere is enough to turn me away). I buy exactly the new truck I want with the options I want and usually keep my trucks for 60k miles or less before I trade them.

I just traded my 2010 Tundra Platinum, 110k worry free miles for my 2016 F150 Platinum. I loved that truck and had tough time getting rid of it. That said, the F150 won me over and is a better truck in [most] every way. Available features and creature comforts of the F150 are what moved me in that direction. We could go on and on with the F150's superlatives, but I thought I would highlight a couple of areas that could use improvement.

---Full roll down back window/sun roof integration. In my Tundra, when using them in conjuction, it provided a non intrusive, quite, open air feel that begged you to roll down the all the windows and felt like you were driving a jeep. On the F150, the noise and gusty wind with either or both of them open, make it unpleasant to use them at any speed over 25mph. The dividers for the slider in the rear window inhibit rear vision as well. Toyota may well have this patented or it may be cost prohibitive, but I would pay a $1k option premium to retain that back roll down window.
---Console shifter. Toyotas (and others) use a ratcheting style shifter that allows you to shift between gears by feel and position. The straight style one of the F150 has me over shifting constantly in to the M mode. I am sure that I will adjust, but ratchet style shifters are more intuitive in my opinion.
---Home link. I have a range of maybe 15 feet with my F150. My driveway is a lot longer that that. It is dang near useless on this truck.
---Center console cover seams/piping. This is not exclusive to my truck, my Explorer Sport has the same issue. Whoever designed the fancy piping in the center console, clearly never rested there army on it. Its an annoyance and causes pressure points while your driving.
---Visors. Sun doesnt only come in from the side or from the front. Toyota uses a dual visor system that allows you to flip front visor down, while swinging the main visor towards the door, to block sun that is coming in from an angle.

Thats really about all of stuff that I think could easily be improved. The truck is fantastic, and I am glad I made the change...it is, in my opinion, the best tool for the job.

Ill agree that i like the back window on the tundra.

About the only thing i like about the tundra, but still...

Default SSM 45635 - 2015 F-150 Effective Feb 5 2016

Because of the build date this may apply to your vehicle

Some 2015 F-150 vehicles built on/or before 11/30/2015 and equipped with a universal transmitter may exhibit poor range while attempting to operate a garage door. A poor range concern may be present if the battery was weak in the original transmitter used to program the universal transmitter. If the universal transmitter is inoperative at any distance, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-02 for normal diagnostics. If the universal transmitter functions properly at a very close distance, poorly at normal distances and the battery of the original transmitter was good when programming the universal transmitter, then replace the sun visor. The sun visor has been updated for this concern. Refer to the parts catalog for the appropriate part number required for each vehicle.

The range of my home link on my Lariat is about from my neighbors driveway. 50' maybe.

I traded my 2012 Toyota Tundra Platinum in on this 2015 F150, I would agree with the rear window. It is too noisy with the F150 design, I also like the sound system in the Toyota better, I don't usually replace sound systems, but this F150 is not good and it is hard to have the sunroof open and music playing. Overall I do love my new F150, it was sad to say goodbye to the Tundra, but I love the F150. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the feedback...I will have to check to see if mine has been updated. I can only open/close the garage if I am nosed in. If its backed in, it won't activate.

completely agree. on the Tundra, it begged for all of the windows to be rolled down regardless of speed. on the F150, if you are moving at all its time to close the sunroof.

also, while the idea of a panoramic sunroof is a nice touch, it does require that huge sunshade. i do find it annoying that it takes so long to close when i want the sun off of me immediately.

An easy way to tell if you are in M or D without looking (with the console shifter): When it's in D, the detent piece pops out like it would when it's in P. When in M, the detent piece stays depressed. At least that's the way it is on mine. Hope that helps!

My 2016's home link is terrible. Not sure if it is the aluminum that blocks the signal or if the transmitters in the trucks are just garbage right now, but the signal strength is terrible on mine and many others.


I have owned 5-10 vehicles with Homelink and the range has never been an issue. All of these have been at the same house, same garage door opener, etc...


When I programmed my 16 F150 I failed programming it multiple times until I figured out that it was something with the F150. It would only "pair" with the opener when Id pull the visor down while I pushed the home link button.

My 2003 Avalanche (And every other home link I've owned) will open the door from about 3X the distance of my F150.

Pulling the Visor down while pulling up to the house does the trick now. (If I don't, I wind up with my front bumper about 1 foot from the garage door before it will finally open the door) This is a pain in the rear (Never mind that it will block my view if I pull it down too far trying to get better range) but at least it will actually open the door.


All in all, I am in the same boat with you.... Very pleased with the truck and don't regret it a bit!
