Are you sure the oil was not 5W-30?

I just dropped off my first sample taken today. 5.0 at 20K miles with 5k on the oil. Hoping for a good report, it has ran smoothly and had no issues.

The viscosity is too high for 5w20, but you already figured it out. I am surprised Blackstone did not mention it.

Actually the oil has dropped into the SAE 20 grade viscosity (6.9 - <9.3 cSt @100°C per SAE J300) either from shearing or most likely fuel dilution. Per the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 product data sheet the oil has a typical cSt @100°C of 10.3 and a flash point of 224°C (404°F). That leaves open the distinct possibility that the fuel dilution is more like 2.5%. Far from an alarming level (5% generally accepted). Blackstone flags dilution at >2%.

Gas chromatography is a preferable method for testing fuel dilution.

Why is Blackstone so popular for Oil analysis in the US? I sent a sample to them, as well as AGAT labs, that I am using in Calgary.

Blackstone price translated to $11 more than AGAT in Calgary, after the CAD conversion, plus I have to pay postal charges.

There must be other labs that do GC testing, at prices similar to Blackstone.

AGAT labs had 3% Fuel Dilution, Blackstone showed <0.5

I also sent a Sample of Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 (Not Ultra Platinum). they had my flashpoint @ 400

IIRC Blackstone's Fuel Dilution is an estimate calculated from the Flashpoint. Polaris Labs gives an accurate measurement for dilution.

Uh oh, your barium is 0! I would consider changing your blinker fluid ASAP.

I'll throw in. Here's mine at nearly 5K miles on the oil and 50K miles. The fuel dilution is spot on, I do alot of short trips, hence the change interval being right at 5k.
