I just bought a new 2016 F150 Lariat and wanted to know the best time to change the oil?

When the smart oil meter says to.

Have you read your manual?

The answer is in the Owner's Manual in the glove box. You did read the Owner's Manual on your new truck didn't you?

I personally don't have any confidence in the "smart oil monitor." Ford still can't even get the mpg meter close to accurate. I change mine every 5,000 miles.

^+1, I'm with Munkeebutt on this one. I'll drive a ton of highway miles....then a ton of city miles, so the % decrease per mile can vary wildly depending on the type of driving you've been doing. Its best to play it safe sometimes and just change it at 5000 (typically 50% life).

I'm spoiled. I manage a shop. I do motorcraft every 3000. Never had an oil leak in 12 years

Lots of opinions with no basis in fact.
