Why would your wife leave her "engagement ring" in a truck in a hotel parking lot overnight? LOL. I smell insurance scam on that one.

I’d just like to chime in here as I hadn’t seen it mentioned, but the OBD port on these generation trucks is also the Gateway module. If you look up behind the OBD port, it’s simply a wiring harness that connects to the module, it’s not hardwired. Used gateway modules can be had on eBay for as little as $20. Someone with enough smarts to get into your truck can probably carry that module with them, unclip the wiring harness from your “locked” port, and plug it into their own. My assumption here is that if a thief is smart enough to carry a device that can reprogram keys, they probably also know a little bit about the modules.

Thank you I was not aware of that. If I understand you correctly then our trucks essentially have a gateway terminal hardwired and the OBD2 port is just a conversion dongle connected in front of the gateway connector?

People smart enough, probably know how to get into your house. I'll bet you lock your door before you go to bed anyway.

Lots of Youtube videos showing how thieves can use the ODB port to reprogram a blank key in a minute

Looked around for an OBD lock a aftermarket lock (not sure why Ford does not provide a secure lock):

Mitico

https://mitico.com/index.php/product...ctor-obd-lock/

Pros: looks somewhat secure

Cons: expensive ($189)

Sirhc Labs

https://sirhclabs.com/product/univer...security-lock/

Pros: looks somewhat secure

Cons: expensive ($235)

Ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/14494214209...Bk9SR9Ts_ejIYQ

Pros: looks somewhat secure, Inexpensive ($20)

Cons:

Many videos on how easy this is for a thief with the right device to clone a key.
I think you would be better off. Getting some Flash Bangs and setting up some trip wire in the truck if you are that worried about someone getting in it and programming a new key and taking off with your truck.

If they go that far to get my truck they can have it. They make more.

Correct, the OBD port is part of a module called the Gateway Module (GWM). If you look up behind your OBD port (the GWM), there's a removable wiring harness connector.

The lock available on Ebay says it will fit the 2021 F150. I'm guessing that it will fit the 2023 truck as well?
