Should have remote tail gate release with damper so it doesn't smash down when popped.

My 501a Lariat has remote tailgate release with a damper so the 502 sure should!

Thx for fast responses. Dealership didn't know but didn't argue about it. They took damper off truck in lot and put on my truck. Problem solved

Cool. But if you are getting the 502a then it should have been on. Also, you should have the remote function on your fob for tailgate release. But, you might not want it. Bunch of dudes in skinny jeans on here complain that they keep activating the release unexpectedly.

Might want to check over the 502a options included if that one was somehow left off from factory.

That's good.
Although extremely ridiculous at the same time.
Just think how many people that this might have happened to that didn't know any better. Just missing out on standard features that they're paying for without even knowing about it?
And whether the dealer truly didn't know or not, who knows. But bottom line is they should definitely know what these vehicles offer

What exactly are they using as a damper? It must be more than just a torsion spring I would think? Does anyone know?

I don't know? There must be a torsion spring to take the weight when closing, and a damper to keep it from slamming open.

Seems to me another, say xlt got a damaged tailgate or scratch and they swapped it to make a sale. Didn't think of the added features. Or someone bought an xlt and did a test drive of a lariat and swapped to get the torsion spring. But the lock would be different. So idk but there are reasons I see this happening. EXCELLENT catch my brother!!!!!
