Default MPG Question.

My question is concerning the displayed MPG.I'm wondering if the displayed MPG only considers the actual consumption during driving time.We are going through a cold snap up here and I've been using the remote start a lot,so I have a lot of idle time on my last tank of gas.I filled up today and my display read 16.8 mpg US,but when I calculated by hand it is 13.8 mpg US.

I filled up a few days ago.....lots of remote starts due to weather on that tank. Yes....the low 20’s is cold here in the Fl panhandle. Mine was off by 1.3....truck showed 16.7....actual was 15.4. It’s called a lie-o-meter for a reason. Many threads on the topic here.

To my knowledge the dash readout estimate considers all driving unless you have tow mpg disabled (to be excluded, it is a setting on some models/years).

The estimated dash readout can be a little off. Never seen it 3 mpg off though in any of the newer fords I've bought. Mine usually reads from plus a few tenths off to minus 1.5 max. Current truck is shows about .5 high.

Yeah mine is usually .5 or so mpg off.Thats why I was curious about the big difference in this tank.

I should have added that mine typically runs around .5-.7. The last few tanks have been around 1.1....with the tank mentioned above off the most. I assume it’s a combo of winter blend gas and colder temps.

If the engine is running, the meter is running. Mine has been pretty consistently .3 optimistic. It might get a bit more skewed from lots of idling. My current idle hours are about 6% of my total hours, just as an FYI.

I want to say there's a setting somewhere that you can reset the calibration, but I may be wrong....

Well documented on the forum that the MPG only changes when the key is inserted, so any remote start fuel usage is ignored.
