Default Mode Memory Switch

EDIT

Part is junk.
Seller/mfg does not know why they don't always work.
I am sending back and do Not recommend buying.

I installed a Mode Memory Switch on my 2019.
It works well and was a quick and easy install.
There is a step by step Youtube video, but it's basically; pull the center console cover, literally pull it, it's held down with spring clips.
You'll have to move the shifter to Drive to have room to lift it off. Start pulling at the top 2 corners of the cover that are not visible until you lift the center console lid.
Then, there's a black plastic cover underneath. That cover has 2 visible T20 torx screws between the shifter and cupholder, then just pull that cover up, as there are 6 spring clips holding it. Again, shifter in Drive for clearance to lift up, but not remove that cover.
Then you can see the white plug at the rear base of the shifter.
Unplug it, and plug the Mode Memory Switch inline, reassemble, and it's done.
It's a 5 minute job.
The mode automatically resets to whatever mode you left the truck in when you last turned it off.
The mode does Not change until you shift into Drive, and can take a few seconds, but it does show up on the dash, just as if you were manually pushing the button.
The factory remote start still functions normally, as does everything else.
This is for console shift.
This is also available for column shift, but install is different, and I have no experience with that.
The switch was recommended to me by another forum member, and I will add his name to this when I find it again.
This switch cost $49, has a lifetime warranty, and they are a very good to deal with.
If you don't mind pushing the mode button every start, then this is Not for you.
But, for $49 and 5 minutes, I'm very happy with it.

Is this for maintaining the “drive mode” such as normal, sports, eco things?

Yes,
I normally drive in Eco mode, so when I start the truck, it automatically changes to that without pressing the button.
It also appears on the dash shortly after shifting to Drive, as if you were pushing the button, so the dash will always display whatever mode you are in, just as it does from the factory.

Default Remote Start

I'd get this, but I've heard it doesn't work with remote start. I'd need the column shift version.
I'd probably like even more if a more advanced version had the smarts to figure out what mode it was in and just default to that. i.e. what the auto stop eliminator does.

I'm on the fence, but it's going to get cold, so remote start will be a thing again. I'd like to avoid doing the drive mode button thing at start, but once I don't need to I'll forget about it, and then it's almost more annoying when it doesn't work part of the time vs every time.

It does default to whatever mode the truck is in when you turn it off.
As for the column shift and remote start, you would need to contact the seller and ask, as I do not know.
My remote start works normally with the console shifter and the Memory Mode Switch.

I've had it for a few months now. I have the console shifter.

If you have the console shifter IT DOES WORK WITH REMOTE START..

I'm using all caps, because it was mentioned before, yet the rumor persists...
Maybe this will finally put it to bed.

I put this in my 17 XLT with column shift and remote start. It works just fine with remote start on my truck.

Two points on my install. The instructions have you set 4 things. I set the first two like the instructions said. The second two, the unit didn't work when I followed the instructions. When I did the opposite of the instructions on the second two, it worked just fine. If I remember correctly, I had to tell it to use single pulses, and that I didn't have remote start. The instructions called for my truck to use double pulses and that I had remote start.

I will be returning this switch.
This is actually the 2nd one I received.
The first would randomly set the mode to whatever, just not the same mode it had been left in.
This one I have now, I left in Eco this morning, only to start the truck this afternoon and watch it set itself to Snow/Wet mode.
I'm not going through this a 2nd time.
These have proven to be Junk to me.
My apollogies for ever recommending it!
JUNK!

I do not like to bash companies on the internet, and I give people the benefit of the doubt.
Things happen, bad parts get out...but the sellers response is totally unacceptable.
Here it is copy/pasted below.

Hm, we manufacture them.
There is a condition what cause it to malfunction. But i can’t get enough info yet if the module switches modes to slow, to fast or the memory gets corrupted. It also could be vehicle does not except the changes at some point which is causing their module to be out of sync. We don’t have a truck for long tests and we cannot replicate it with short tests.
Anyway, thank you for your help.
Slava

Translation: We rushed a product to market without proper testing, we don't know why it doesn't work because we know very little about what we are doing.

Be you're own judge. I support small business, the U.S, and American ingenuity. Which is why I gave this part a shot. I cannot sit by and not post this, as I would feel guilty about not letting the next guy know what he was dealing with. Incompetence. Lack of engineering ability. And selling a defective product with limited testing and no idea how to fix it.
These trucks are too expensive to let someone's carelessness and inability potentially cause serious problems.
After this response I was given, I feel that this product should not even be offered for sale, until and if they can prove it to be safe and able to do what it claims...which it cannot.
This is much more than just being displeased with a product.
