Default MFT WiFi Question

My '15 has the MFT and I see in the settings that I can connect to my WiFi network that's in my garage. What will this do for me? Sync updates?, Nav route uploads?...etc?

The option to a connect to a WiFi network won't help with navigation or software updates. It allows you to create a mobile hot spot in your vehicle for passengers.

Here is some additional information: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...i-hotspot.html

Does that offer any advantage over just tuning my iPhone into a hotspot?

I think the idea was it would allow you to plug in a USB cellular device to MFT and then everyone can connect via the Wireless. That would be great if it was compatible with more than two USB modems...

I get better results throwing a CradlePoint router in the glove box.

Point being most phone already tether or act has hot spots. No sense in duplicating efforts from the phone to mft to tablet when you can just do phone to tablet

But there's no cellular connectivity built in to the truck, so it has to get the connection from somewhere--presumably the phone or a mobile hotspot that can just serve the other devices directly.

The only setup that makes any sense is a USB hotspot that would normally go right into a computer, but as was mentioned, only about two models are supported.
