Default MFT 'application error' warning ... Anyone seen this before?

System had been sort of glitchy yesterday, hanging up on commands, then as I went to change from the Navigation panel to the Audio panel ... it freaked out, going black, then showing this MS Windows looking error. Over the next 5-10 minutes it finally shut down, did a full reboot, then came back online. No presets lost and data seems to have been preserved thankfully. Still found it odd. F'ing Microsoft.

Hey Rob O,

That is pretty peculiar. I recommend checking your Owner account for updates: Owner.Ford.com Once you're logged in, select the SYNC & HOW TOS tab then CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES. Let me know how it goes.

My SYNC is up to date. I loaded the latest software update in October. After that update, I was having issues with my BT connection where the phone that previously worked fine would only connect for BT Audio, not telephone. I did a master reset, which resolved the issue. From that point forward it's been working fine ... until crashing the other night with that error message.

I still need to get mine in for the Adaptive Cruise recall and a couple TSBs, so I'll show them that photo and see what they find.

Thanks

Welp ... my MFT official **** the bed tonight. Had another "fatal error", then the screen blacked out, and this is what it looked like after that.

Eventually the display appeared normal, with the four quadrants and information displaying, but it was borked. The clock never changed, BT wouldn't connect, switching from one quadrant to another the screen would fade out, then appear in pieces, the radio stations don't change, heated seat button illuminated and I can't turn it off, etc. Complete clúster fúck.

I was able to get it to recognize inputs that took me to the 'master reset' button. Clicking it did nothing, then it said it was resetting to factory settings, then after several minutes it goes back to the screen without actually resetting (or doing anything, really).

I've recorded as much of this as possible so I have video to show the tech.

Taking it in next Tuesday. At least I can have recall and TSBs performed too.

Battery has not been disconnected since I've owned the vehicle, nor have I lost power in any way (dead batt, low charge, etc).

And after driving again this morning, the system is definitely fubar'd.

The back up camera feed functions properly, and the Ford logo splash page shows at start up (ignition ON) and when turning the truck off, so the *display* is functioning based on those inputs ... It's just the MFT system itself that's hosed.

Regarding MFT, the screen shows MFT info for the first few minutes after starting the truck, but will only display the last screen used (where I tried to Master Reset). The clock still shows 5:05 pm, which is when I was last able to use it, and I can't change *any* setting related to MFT ... including radio/sat/media; it's stuck on SiriusXM Preview channel (even though I'm a subscriber and was on an actual sat radio channel when it shut down). Thankfully I do have volume control. Heh. After several minutes, the screen just goes black (although audio from the radio continues to play).

Hey Rob O,

Thanks for the update! Glad you have an appointment soon. Please keep me in the loop; I'd like to know the dealer's findings.

Sooooo ... after taking the truck in ahead of Christmas to fix the failed MFT described in this thread, it's failed again just a few days later.

First let me say that the dealer's initial reaction to the description, photos and video of the problem I was having -- where MFT **** the bed -- was to inquire about what *I* might have done to cause it. They said they'd never seen that error message, and would perform a master reset. I let them know the system had done a master reset on it's own subsequent to the crash message and worked for a couple days before failing completely. I requested they look beyond just resetting the system to the APIM, and if it might have failed. Instead, I'm pretty sure they just reset the thing, saw that it was working at that point and figured they'd were the greatest tech in the history of the world.

Jump to this week, when the system was doing strange things like showing my phone as being active on a call -- minutes counting, 'end call' button showing and no audio functionality available (as would be the case if I was actually on a call). But my phone was not registering a call. Even when I powered the phone down, which should have killed the BT connection, the MFT screen showed it as being on an active call. It was also quite laggy when going to the NAV function ... more than usual. Like, wait, wait, wait, black screen, wait, wait, oh there it is.

Then this morning, my screen looks like this and does nothing. Power button not recognized, no touch screen functionality ... nuttin'.

Glad my Ford dealer isn't inconvenienced by my having to drive 10 miles to drop the truck off, then be without for how ever long they need it. Last time they had it two days, which bumped up against Christmas, so they kept it two more because I couldn't pick it up before they closed on the 23rd. Awesome sauce.
