Default Maps not displaying on SYNC 3.4 homescreen when using android auto

Hello, not sure if this is a system design that can be changed by forscan or if this is a different issue, so posting here instead if in the forscan thread.

using sync 3.4 and android auto.

When I connect phone by bluetooth, the Sync homescreen still shows the ford maps. When I connect phone by usb for android auto the space that used to show a map on the homescreen shows a Maps icon, that when touched takes me to google naps and it works fine.

Is there any way to get a map to display on the Sync homescreen while using android auto over usb?

Thanks,

Adam

No, that's intended functionality. It essentially turns your map on the sync home screen into a shortcut icon for your AA maps app. Same thing happens with Apple CarPlay.

Thanks for clarifying. Has anyone found a workaround so any map will display on the home screen? Sounds like I need to move this over to forscan.

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to change this behavior using forscan. I think your only option if you want to have your phone plugged in to charge and still see maps on the sync screen is to disable AA. Alternatively, you could try a 12v usb charger for the times you don't want to use AA.

Thanks for the reply! I use the usb cable to stay as lossless as possible in the audio signal chain. I use lossless (wav or flac) files or qobuz up to 16bit 44.1khz on my phone, and USB Audio Player Pro app to output full resolution audio to the headunit. It then it It goes to a pac amppro ap4-fd21, to optical cable, to my dsp. There is definetely additional detail and quality over bluetooth.

I'll try this in forscan just in case someone has figured out a workaround. From my perspective it seems like a poor design to not leave a map inset on the home screen when using AA. Not trying to second guess you, just would be great to find a workaround.

If I understand correctly, you want to use the Ford Maps (from Sync) in Android Auto?? If so, that wouldn't be a Sync issue, that would be an Android Auto issue. Android Auto would need to make that happen.

I would like any kind of map to still display on the homescreen in SYNC, instead of the logo that just says "maps." Don't care if it's a ford or google map.

Ah, so you're wanting to pipe the audio in over USB. In that case, it might be worth asking this in the stickied forscan thread if you haven't already. Maybe there is a way to add USB as an audio source in the source selection. It would likely require disabling AA though.

I agree. I understand the convenience of it being a shortcut to get you right back into google maps/waze, but it makes for an ugly UI.

if you are using android auto, that isn’t Sync. That is Android Auto. Sync has nothing to do with displaying maps inside or AndroidAuto.

I think he's talking about on the sync screen. So if you're in AA or CP and you back out to the sync screen, it just shows a blank square labeled "Maps" (second picture in OP). Question is if there's a way to make that blank "Maps" square display a map (whether it's sync or google/waze) instead. I don't think there is, but can't say for sure.
