Default Map Updates Fails with BGMAP_ERR01

Yesterday I updated the SYNC3 software in my 2016 Platinum with no problems. Then I bought a map update, downloaded it and have tried installing it half a dozen times with different changes, and still get the error message "Error Code: BGMAP_ERR01".

I have tried re-downloading the software, re-formatting the Flash drive with a complete erase and more. Early on, I disabled the auto engine off in the truck and renamed the flash drive to SyncMyRide which had not been necessary for the Sync3 update. I also talked to three different people at Ford who were of no help. One told me I had to use Stuffit instead of Winzip to unzip a Zip file on a Mac and that was really stupid. (But I haven't tried that.) I have also tried both of the USB ports in the truck. One Ford rep told me I had to use the one on the driver's side, but yesterday the Sync3 update worked using the other one.

The only guy at my local dealer who can help with this is on vacation so any suggestions would be welcome.

It would help to know what SYNC version you updated to.... I know on my 2016, the Map update (1.18) required SYNC v3.0 or above. I have no idea if that is the problem or not. Might also try a reboot (off button and fast forward for about 10 seconds) of the APIM or a master reset.

Nope. After the SYNC 3 update and before I did tried any map updates I did a screen capture to verify the new SYNC 3 version and it recorded the map version (the old map) as NA 1 15. After 6-8 attempts of turning the engine off and on and re-inserting the stick and trying the map update, the map is still at NA 1 15. And the stick containing the new maps was never inserted for more than 30 seconds before the error appeared, so it was never in long enough for a map update.

APIM reset didn't work. What do you mean by master reset?

I think the Master Reset is under one of the settings screens. When you state you turned the truck off/on, did you open the driver door (as if you were getting out) door and let all the dash lights go out? If not, do that. Just turning the key off then back on does not shut things down all the way.

So, you've never tried to update the map prior, and it threw the error immediately each time? The other times I've seen this pop up is when the update was stopped by mistake part way through. There's a map delete utility that someone in customer service would need to provide to wipe it clean of any nav data, then you can run the map install again.

I am not positive, but I think that I got the same error when I put the Licence file in the root directory instead of the SyncMyRide folder. It stopped right away...
Just a thought.

I have been getting an error with the zip file. Called the help line and the lady told me they were having issues and hope to have it resolved by Thursday. She said to try again on Friday. Hope this helps.
