Making the most of MFT
Hi. New owner of a 2015 XLT S-crew 5.5 with MFT Sync 2. I am trying to figure out what I can do with MFT. (No Nav) I know that I cannot use Sync services, since that was discontinued in August. I cannot register at SyncMyRide.com since the servers have been down since November 10th (I suspect they are off, but I have chatted with "support" several times and they insist that it is just maintenance and I just need be patient). I have read here that I can get parts and upgrade physically to a sync 3, but that seems a little extreme.
Are there useful Apps or software packages that I can install that add any good functions? Can I do it without being registered? It seems like information about this on the ford site is behind the registration wall, which I clearly cannot breach. Is it a waste of my time, or is there a smarter path for me to take.

In some ways MFT looks better than Sync 3, but it's slow, clunky and not very intuitive.Sync 3 is the better system, but I don't think it's worth the hassle of replacing.

The only thing that I've seen that makes Sync 3 beneficial is CarPlay which allows you to use voice activated maps with your iPhone instead of the MFT nav, which is awful and has no voice activation. The only problem is the cost. I've seen the Sync 3 upgrade kit from $1600. Probably not worth it.

can't he get an aftermarket double din receiver with apple play?

Definitely but I would be concerned that the other OEM functionalities like climate control won’t connect properly. Alpine has an adapter that will allow steering wheel voice controls to work but I have yet to find anyone who can confirm the other stuff will work.

Thanks guys. You're right... $1500 for car play isn't worth it... I don't really -need- anything more, it just seemed like there is such an opportunity for apps and updates, its a shame its not being used. I am a little frustrated that FORD has done such a terrible job documenting what can and can't be done since they dumped sync 2 support in August. You really can't get any insight from their web presence and their chat support people ... well... I guess they just have a bad script.
Not as frustrated as I am that I can't get things to charge in the 110 inverter.... grmph.
