I just swapped out the Sync 2 MFT, in my '15 Lariat, to Sync 3, and I'll say I like the Sync 3 much better. I found the MFT system to be laggy and just all around more difficult to use. I mainly did the swap so I would have CarPlay and I use it all the time for the integration with Waze and other apps.
I got all my parts from TexasFording. Hit him up on here and I'm sure he could hook you up the same. The kits from 4dtech and the like, are way overpriced. He was able to get me a Sync 3 unit, with Nav, for less than what those other companies charge for the ones without Nav. If you're somewhat tech savvy, you could also do it all yourself for even cheaper, by sourcing the parts from junkyards. Just have to make sure you get the right unit that will fit in your truck without modification. Mine came from a focus, so the same units are used across multiple models. Almost completely plug and play, other than some minor splicing for the power to the new USB hub, and the Forscan programming of the APIM.
But, I still recommend going through TexasFording. He makes it painless and simple, providing all the parts you need, as well as the coding for you to plug into Forscan. And his prices are not that much higher than if you were to buy everything from a junkyard.
