Default Mac Issues- Warning! This is a very specific thread

I have all Apple products in my house, no Windows. I am trying to fiddle around with the MFT screen to change the background. I have the pixels correct (800x384) and the file type correct (jpeg). I am using a thumb drive formatted on a Mac for FAT16 (can't do FAT32). I saved the pictures I wanted (2 of them) to the USB drive and tried to upload it.

Only one photo showed up as a possible extension to use on the MFT, even though both were the same; I got the error message (file type not supported).

I'm thinking this is something I would have to do entirely on a Windows machine. Like email the photos to work and format the USB drive specifically for Windows then try to upload them.

I doubt it, but did anyone else try to do this with their MFT and have a similar error code with either Windows or Mac?

I'm strictly Mac as well. I tried numerous things and I had trouble as well until I formatted to the right size (which it sounds like you've done).

At work on call so can't check at the moment but try saving the pictures under each if the supported file types (other than JPEG). I think that's what I did.

I tried multiple flash drives as well but I don't think that was the issue.

I believe the usb stick has to be formatted FAT32.

MAC guy here as well. I think you are correct, I've run into this issue with other electronics.

I have about 10 usb sticks ive used and never formatted one of them.

Its true, you do get error messages sometimes why? I have no idea. I think its in relation to where the picture may have been originally formatted but who knows...

Try another picture.

I'm off work tomorrow so I'll mess around with different file extensions. I agree it may be the formatting thing (FAT32 instead of FAT16). I just don't get FAT32 as an option when I go into Disk Utility.

I'll give it a whirl and if I fail again I'll take it to work and format it correctly, start from the beginning.

Thanks for your responses, much appreciated.

A normal person typicaly will not have to format. However some instances require you to use FAT16 to use on a MAC. If this is done, you can not reformat back to FAT32. The compression and root access is differnent and sometimes is read differntly on some electronics.

you can try danno's suggestion, but I am thinking if you format to FAT32 from a windows machine and retry it will work. Also another possibility if file size and compression is not accepted in the MFT.

I have a Mac and I bought a thumb drive, plugged it into the computer, transferred the pictures, and pulled them up fine on my screen. No formatting or anything. Maybe I got lucky with the thumb drive I bought and it was formatted perfectly for this situation.

Of course it worked USB drives are formatted FAT32 which is okay for both Mac and windows. He said he has a FAT16, which a windows machine will not read.

Your best bet might be to try to find a PC out there in the world and format it on there. Only gotta do it once. Maybe a fried has a PC or the library or something haha.
