Hey booze. Now that I think about it you can format to FAT32 from the disk utility.

I thought about this and it makes sense.

I looked at the size of the photos and they are probably too big. One of them is 4.5MB for example. I need to scale down the resolution of the photo then change the size to the proper 800x384.

I'll try it out tomorrow. If that doesn't work then I'll try reformatting at work.

Is it possible to reformat from FAT16 to FAT32 on a Windows machine since you can't go back on a Mac?

Just read your post GOEBLUEJD, I'll look in Disk Utility again. I know you can format hard drives to FAT32, like if you're setting up Parallels or something but I didn't see it for the USB.

Late to the game here — but, although 4.5 MB isn't really that large, considering the size of the screen and just the general quality of its display, this was my second guess just after needing to use FAT32.

A couple of thoughts on this-

1.) The MFT system is incredibly finicky in general-on my 2013 it took me something like 7 trips from computer to truck to get the right photo in the right file type at the right resolution and I am a pure windows user.

2.) Keep in mind that you dont have to use a USB-you can also use an SD card. Pop out the card you have for nav, pop in the card with the photos you want, download photos, put nav card back in.

Hopefully some of that helps!

Gentlemen, thank you for all the advice and information. Issue resolved.

I did like you said and reformatted the USB drive to FAT32. I was looking for FAT32 and brainfarted on MS-DOS being the default.

Once I reformatted I emailed myself the pictures at a smaller size (medium). Dropped them back into iPhoto and opened up Edit. In there I saved them to the correct 800x384 and dropped them to the desktop. Dropped to USB from there and took them out to the truck. Both test photos showed up perfectly. A lot of steps, yes, but I'm happy with the end result.

Thanks again
