Default Looking for some feedback before I pull the trigger on an 18XLT

Good Morning F150 Forum!

In the last week or so I have decided to sell my two vehicles (Chevy 2500HD / Malibu) and buy one newer vehicle to suit my family needs better. I think I have settled on the F150. Seems like the 2.7 Quad cabs give a perfect mix of price/performance/and room for the kids.

I've been reading a lot on this forum in the last few days, and Its been great. So thank you for this great community, I look forward to contributing. I have a few questions and worries and I was hoping you all could guide me on.
I am looking at this Truck: https://www.parkfordtallmadge.com/us...EW1EP6JFE63162
1. I test drove in the dark last night, and it seemed just fine. I plan to go into today for a better once over, and was hoping you all could give me pointers to look for.
2. From what I have read on here, I should be buying the warranty from ziegler or flood right? Dont buy anything from the finance office?
3. I see this truck has was looks like an aftermarket break controller, is that a warning sign of past heavy towing? Anything I should be looking for? The truck seemed to be bought in Ohio then spent some time in florida, so I am thinking a snowbird who maybe had a camper?
4. Price seems fair with the current market (albeit I little inflated I feel) but they gave me a fair (and inflated trade in value as well)
5.. What else? - Anything i should be aware of, look out for, or triple check before buying?

Now the Fun Stuff!
Not looking to do much to this vehicle, but I would like to protect, what floormats / seat covers / bed covers are popular around here?

Thanks everyone - looking forward to being a part of this community.

1.) 2.7 is a very solid engine with a good history. Not many common issues with the engine. Check the engine for any oil leans as well as the oil pan. Look underneath for any heavy signs of rust or frame repairs.

2.) if you don't live in Florida then yes go on Ziegler's and flood fords website to see what they charge for the ESP plans. Just make sure you can register your warranty since it will need to be certified by the dealership.

3.) hard to say if it was heavy towing, trailers over 3k lbs require brakes. I would look at the wiring at the back of the truck where they spliced in. I would also recommend removing the aftermarket controller and installing the OEM one for ford. Parts are pretty cheep and it's a quick change in forescan. OEM controller integrates with the truck. You should already have the plug. See if the salesman can give you any past history on the truck.

5.) you can ask to see the ford service history, this will give you an idea what's been done to the truck.

2 - look on Zeigler and Flood websites and figure out which one you want. Print off screen shots and take with you. Tell them you can get this warranty for this price. See if they'll match it. Probably not, but when I bought mine, the dealer did match the price.

I live in Akron...is your 2500 diesel? I might be interested if you'd be willing...

Also happy to chat on the phone about your purchase if you'd like any perspective from someone who has owned 3 F150s in the last 10 years...

I have an '18 XLT Supercab I'm very happy with, although its a V8. Bought it new, had LOTS of issues with it mainly from being a new generation drivetrain the dealer's obviously did not understand. I worked out all its issues on my own and at 4 yrs and 32k miles, its a fine runner. I have the Maxpyder Kagu 3D mats in mine, compared them side by side with the Weather Techs and chose these, they've been fine. They are a better looking mat than the WT's and the Husky's I think.

1 - if you go back, see how much noise it makes on cold start. I am not sure if the 2.7 has the issue but I know the 3.5 has had some waste gate rattle issues on the turbo. I had a drive side turbo on mine replaced. Those tires also look a bit low on tread. It is certified so they should have 50%+ tread left but the ones in the picture look like crap. Check service history. Be weary of anything that has a significant gap in oil changes.
2 - I would buy from Ziegler. That's what I did with my 18. I added bumper to bumper 125k and total of 7 years from in service.
3 - I'd be a bit weary of this and why someone added it. Having a bumper to bumper (or at least power train) for the time you plan to own it would be what I would do.
4 - you'd have to do your research on this.
5 - also agree with others on the service history. The truck has under 40k so as long as the previous owners kept up with oil changes and wasn't towing absurd loads it should be ok.

My 2018 has been working fine with no big issues. The 2.7 is solid engine.

The add reads that it comes with Ford Gold warranty, so before buying even more, I would verify what warranty it comes with.
Also specs and data says 17" wheels, but those shown are stock 18". Not a big deal, people swap the 17-18-20" optional wheels all the time. The Wranglers look like there's not much tread left.
I also like running a service report at Ford. Won't show any service at private shops or DIY but will show all work done at Ford dealerships.

Pretty sure you need to be within 3 years/36k to purchase the Ford extended warranty (“ESP”). It’s okay to discuss this in the box with the FI manager, but make sure you’re clear on whether he’s selling you a genuine Ford warranty or an aftermarket policy. I suspect anything they try to sell you will be aftermarket, which you don’t want. If it turns out you’re eligible for the ESP, let them compete with Flood and Ziegler.

You’re definitely eligible for the CPO warranty, which is 1 year/12k bumper to bumper from your date of purchase and 7 years/100k from original in service date with a $100 deductible. The dealer must officially certify it for you to receive this coverage. Sticker price for CPO is $1200, and actual dealer cost is rumored to be around $800.

I purchased my 18 last year and it had ~46k miles on it and was out of the original 36k. It was gold certified and I also put a 7 year 125k PremiumCare plan on it. I think I paid around $1400.

This truck appears to already be certified and you can easily go to Zeigler's website to see if it will qualify. If it is in fact gold certified (which it appears to be since it is a 12/12 bumper to bumper and 7/100 powertrain) a 100k 8 year (from vehicle in service) bumper to bumper with $100 deductible is ~$1500.

If the truck is not gold certified then a 4 year 48k Used PremiumCare plan is just under ~$1600.
