Looking for some feedback before I pull the trigger on an 18XLT
Congrats!
So they sold you a Ford Gold certified vehicle with less than 50% tread on the tires? I didn’t think that was allowed. Did they tell you how much pad was left on the brakes? Any mention of whether they had to turn any of the rotors?
I’ve purchased several Ford certified vehicles and the dealer I work with always said tires needed at least 50% tread. Maybe that’s a dealership policy?
Snow mode is ok. It just reduces power significantly and probably a few other things. I find that 4H and regular drive mode works best in snow. In the 20” storm we had a couple of weeks ago I also used my rear electronic locker and it was a huge help at slow speeds. I’m not sure your truck has that though. You might have 4 auto…that ought to be plenty.
However, looking at the pictures of those tires I think you’ll find the truck to be a bit slippery in snow…I’d avoid the highway in snow for sure.
Check out the Pirelli AT+ Tires. I was skeptical at first but went with them and they are a great all around tire and have enough tread that provides excellent show traction.

The wet snow driving mode delays up shifts and downshifts and , IMO, makes the truck feel like a dog with no power. I’ll only use it when there’s a lot of ice.
As soon as you feel any slipping or there is a layer of ice or snow on the road, engage 4WD HI. Don’t stop, just turn the **** while driving. You cannot go into 4WD LO without going about 3mph or less and shifting to Neutral.
Greetings from Pennsylvania. Congrats on the”new” truck.

Wasn’t trying to recommend 4WD LO for snow, LO in snow, for me, is when you think you may get stuck or after you did get stuck. Just referencing the way in & out of the 4WD modes.

While I agree that's pretty ****ty to sell a vehicle with almost shot tires, on Ford's website for the Gold Certified checklist, there is no tread depth minimum. Just "passed" "repaired" or "replaced" so I'm assuming it goes by state inspection requirements. I would not have bought a vehicle with tires that low.
