Isn't the camera for the auto-wipers?

After reading more and more, it may be for auto headlights, lane assistance, maybe auto wipers too, but I dont have them. There definitely is video of a sensor behind the plastic bumper insert pad, but that was for a 2019, and not exactly sure what it was for. Thank you for responding.

I think the collision avoidance system uses the camera on the windshield, the adaptive cruise uses radar assembly on the front end. Actual little round sensors if you have them are typically park distance control. My truck (XLT) only has the camera and when I got it, it had a message with every start up about a system error or something. Turned out it was the leveling kit that was already installed on it threw it out of alignment and they just had to run a calibration on it. Funny thing is the owner was the sales manager at the dealership and never worried about it because it went away after start up. At least he was old school about service....with 10k miles it had already had three oil changes ha ha.

BTW, on the subject of auto hi beams....WHY the HELL is the setting for that in a menu you have to dig to get to and can only access with the truck stopped????
I've got another car with auto hi beams and it's got a button right on the end of the turn signal stalk. Jeez.

Ok thanks, so the error message you got was for the collision warning? So they had to level the camera behind the review mirror? Thats helpful and thank you. Any way you can get a close up pic of your camera and the orange defrost lines like mine has, just to see if they're suppose to be slanted like that? I would greatly appreciate that, i already appreciate your help and response, so thank you!! Also, what year is your XLT?

You can switch to manual mode by manually turning off the high beams while driving.

But if it's not already on and I want to use it, I have to pull over in the woods and risk getting raped...again....to turn it on.
Just inexplicable to me to put a feature related to headlight function in a menu only accessible when at a stop....of course maybe it's just the fact that I drive another car that makes it simple that makes the truck frustrating.

Sorry, not at home or near my truck now. It's a 2019 XLT. I don't remember exactly but have a pic of the work order on my phone....it says:
"PRE COLLISION ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE MESSAGE IS ON. USING IDS RE ALIGN FRONT CAMERA"

The leveling I mentioned was a leveling kit....one was installed to lift the front end of the truck to "level" it. That in turn I assume threw the collision system camera out of alignment kinda like it did the headlights (I still need to lower them a tad).

I would just use it all the time and manually flip the brights to turn it off if it gets flakey. Mine sometimes get screwy in traffic if it's raining. But every other time I just let it do its thing.

Agree, it's simple to disable but a pain to re-enable. How many times have you already been raped in the woods?
