does anyone have any experience in knowing if a 2wd strut and spring will bolt right into a 4x4? or maybe just the springs? I'm looking to get my front about an 1 or so lower with leaving the stock ride the same.....I would appreciate any input on the subject....any ford techs out there that would know?

They will not. Completely different part numbers according to my parts catalog at work.

 

But wouldn't they have to be a different part number to be different and have a lowering effect?

obviously there gonna have different part numbers it's 2wd vs 4wd.....but do they mount the same or are the a arms completely different

 

they don't mount to a-arms. They bolt directly to the steering knuckle/spindle

 

You are thinking of a macpherson strut suspension. The trucks use a coil over shock with upper and lower control arms. The shock/spring assembly bolts between the lower control arm and the frame of the truck.

 

Not sure if the spring rates between a 2wd would work ok on a 4wd even if they did bolt on. It would be an expensive gamble, especially not knowing what your finial ride height will end up being. You may be better off buying adjustable coil overs for your truck so you can set your height. Not sure if you can lower with these though? Maybe someone can shed some more light on the subject

The only way to know for sure would be to try it, or ask someone who has. I don't think anyone from a dealership or any kind of shop will be willing to say it would work, they wouldn't want to be responsible if something happened... Such as poor handling or something
