You don't need to enter the code at all to lock the doors just press the bottom 2 buttons on the keypad together at any time and the doors will lock.

or if hooked to a trailer with a spare or jack that might hit the tailgate.

I'm trying to figure out a way to deactivate the button on the tailgate just when I'm towing my trailer. The trailer jack is the issue - I don't want to forget and accidentally open the tailgate, it landing on the jack. On my '04 Supercrew I could physically lock the tailgate with the key - about the only real disappointment with my '16.

I've been looking at jumping a fuse with a small, discretely placed toggle switch (with a fuse of its own) so I could deactivate the remote when pulling the trailer. In this thread ( Remote Tailgate Release - Disable ) the first post says you can pull fuse #16 in the passenger compartment fuse panel but later in post #24 the OP says it didn't work. BUT, they were talking about deactivating from the remote. Possibly fuse #16 only deactivates the button on the actual tailgate? That would work for me. I'm wondering if fuse #16 powers anything else that would be affected.

Has anyone else worked on this problem? I may do a little experimenting this weekend.

Does that disable the physical button on the tailgate or only disable opening from the remote? Two minutes each time is about 1:50 longer than I want to take... I have an idea that I'm going to investigate this weekend...

Two quick ideas:

1) Ratchet strap from one of the cleats or box-links to the top of the tailgate holding it closed.

2) Get a set of shortened tailgate support cables so it can't open fully.

Neither will hurt the tailgate as the mechanism just releases the tailgate and lets it fall (dampened).
