Default Keypad opens tailgate

Maybe everyone is aware of this but I couldn't find it in my manual.

I was showing my wife how to use the keypad on my lariat and put the code in once and then quickly went to put it in again to relock the doors and the tailgate popped open. A little playing around and I found if I enter my passcode and then hit the 5-6 button it opens the tailgate.

Yep! Been like that forever. Although it was a trunk pop button. My 1986 Lincoln town car did the same thing. Punch pass code then 5/6 and the trunk would pop. Also if you have driver door priority on and press the 3/4 button after your code it will unlock all the doors. You can also combine these. passcode then 5/6 then 3/4 and it will unlock all doors and open tailgate/trunk.

Nice, this is my first ford, so the keypad is be to me. Very handy feature, I'm glad they've kept it despite so many people thinking it's outdated tech.

I have never used it. I have had it on my last 4 trucks.

Nice! Didn't know that.

And FYI, you don't need to enter your full code again to lock, just press the bottom two buttons at the same time and it locks the truck.

Is it possible to add the remote release feature? I understand that I would need the damper, and also a different fob, but could I request the dealer add in the remote release? I have an XLT model ( 302a), I tried the key pad feature, however it does not work. I assume it either does not have the capable hardware in the tailgate, or its disabled in the computer ( or probably both ). Is it a part i can easily buy?

I found if you hold down the lock / unlock on your fob you can toggle between ALL things unlock or just drivers door. It will pulse the turn signal lights 3x when flipping back and fourth.

I thought the remote tailgate release was over the top at first but I find myself using it a lot coming out of places like Lowes. I just grab the remote with my stuff and pop it as I'm walking up. Pretty handy.
