oh yeah, my only gripe was it was a “certified” truck that had the rust spots when I bought it and somehow I didn’t catch them. It is petty, and I never really expected them to cover it, but was bummed it had already rusted sub 20k miles. For clarity it looks like small rock chips were able to break through the paint, which then started to rust behind the paint.

It sounds like releasing it and sticking to my normal deal of new vehicles only would be good, just sucks because I was able to get a few packages up by going used, but that left me here...so...

recommendations? Chevy (v8)? Dodge? Tundra’s are too expensive and bad on gas, Nissan seems iffy.

thanks again all, and Merry Christmas!

I'd probably give Ford another try. The only one I absolutely would NOT buy is the Ram. That's just because of my own experience with Fiat Chrysler and their terrible customer service.

O.P.,
I would consider another Ford.
My current work truck is a '19 GMC Sierra Limited 5.3 ( old body style),
previous work truck was an '18 f150 5.0 that I traded in for several reasons( Long Story ).

The GMC has some high points, excellent fit and finish for one, and it's just a beautiful truck.
( This may seem petty but, I have to give GM credit for being the only truck maker to unobtrusively park the
windshield wipers at the very bottom of the damn windshield, instead of higher up, ruining ones view of the hood )

I also prefer the fact that it sits an inch or two lower than my Ford did, as I am a contractor and actually put things
in the bed and take things out of it.
Having said all of that, the GMC is just disappointing to drive,
with 383 lb ft of torque the 5.3 litre engine is actually rather stout and GM finally got their 6 speed shifting smoothly,
but the factory tune just makes the truck feel doggy.
It's hard to fully explain this, the truck isn't real slow and if you turn off traction control and nail the throttle,
she'll spin the hell out of the tires !
The problem isn't a lack of power, it's GMs irritating throttle mapping mostly.......the end result is a vehicle with disappointing
driving dynamics.
Fuel mileage has been lousy, but some of that is due to my locking out 6th gear which shuts off the AFM.

My experience with this GMC is similar to my experience with the last couple GM trucks that I have owned,
nothing to bad but just disappointing.
I usually trade in my work truck every year or two anyway( Write Offs! ) and will probably go back to Ford,
not because I think the quality is so much better, but because when drive a Ford ,
you get the impression that their engineers tried hard to make a vehicle that satisfies the customer.
When you drive a GM, you get the impression that they took a lot of fun out of the vehicle to make accounting happy.
( to much torque management certainly helps the vehicle survive the warranty period under abusive driving conditions )

Don't even get me started on the AFM, it was a brain dead disaster on 1970's Cadillacs and is still a brain dead disaster today.

P.S.
if anyone from Ford is reading this: do you think that you could park the damn windshield wipers at THE BOTTOM of the
windshield instead of so high up that the view of the hood is ruined ?

OPer, I've got the same truck same year with with 32K miles with none of the issues you described.
My truck so far has been major trouble free and reliable with a few very minor warranty fixes right after taking delivery..
If it were my truck with all those issues and apparently you're not happy with it, i'd trade it in and let someone else worry about it.
Keep in mind the truck you trade it in for could also have issues.

Now i'm gonna be worried when my truck hits 47K miles!

I would keep the current one and get a warranty from Flood Ford online. In two or three years if it is still problematic then trade.

My 2018 5.0 has had problems, but Ford is slowly coming out with fixes for most issues. I would only consider Ford in the future if they came out with a more torquey V8 and I wanted a STX. Not sure when it will be, but next one will likely be a RAM or Tundra (redesign expected 2021 MY).

That's the part...I LOVE the color, the packages on it, the interior, the MPG, etc. etc. but if my wife is unwilling to take it on a road trip now, due to having issues every time we do...it defeats the purpose and paying for it several more years is also just going to be frustrating. This is the second ford we have had a decent number of issues with in a short number of miles, so despite loving it, if my family can"t rely on it, it's a problem. For clarity, I have had GREAT warranty experiences, but if it keeps happening, even if it's covered, it still could leave us high and dry.

Who has solid warranty, good longevity, and good MPG? Who would YOU go with if not Ford?

Thanks again all! I'd LOVE to go extended warranty route, keep the truck, and not lose 3-4k on the trade, but...not sure my wife would ever feel comfortable.

Is your wife comfortable losing the 3-4K? My wife would probably be OK with it at the moment, but I can see that decision haunting me in the future during some argument. Like they say happy wife, happy life. If she’s truly fine with it and it makes HER feel more comfortable, then it may be worth the financial hit. Can’t put a price on that content feeling.

She's not in love with losing the money, but she also doesn't love not being able to take our truck anywhere longer than around town, so it's definitely a trade off. If I keep this one, I'd be buying and extended warranty this month, and tires next, so 4k is kind of gone either way, in my eyes.

Tires, and a warranty from Flood Ford should be no more than $3000. If you go new, perhaps a 2.7 STX considering the trips you make. That seems to be the most trouble free motor, too.
