Default Just a question...

I've been a member this forum now for a little while and the one thing that really irritates me is that even though there's so much good information here, almost every mechanical thread ends up with:

"My EcoBoost will blow the doors off your Coyote..."

Or...

"My 5.0 will last 10 times longer than your Ecoboost..."

I really dig the site and it helped me make decisions about what I was going to buy, what I should be looking for, etc...but why is it that every post turns into a pissing contest? It's really sad when Ford guys blast Dodge and Chevy guys or vice versa. It's even worse when Ford guys blast Ford guys because of the engine they chose. It reminds me of when I had my first car...a 3100 V6 Grand AM and I was on gapower.com (yes...that was the URL). Everything was about Quad 4 vs. V6, or 3.3 vs 3.1. It was pathetic...and actually pretty sad that people wasted their time arguing about such pointless crap.

This is such an informative site...I just wish the conversation would change a little bit.

Speaking of which...what's everyone's take on how to best apply touch-up paint?

My theory: Inadequacy complex and/or validation-seeking.

The signal-to-noise can be low at times. Not sure that will ever change, unless there's full-time moderation and screening of every post (infant imagine that).

I concur that finding valuable information can be challenging. The advanced search function and Google help cut through the noise.

Yeah, I realize it's human nature. Still...I feel like if I post an engine-related thread at any point, it's going to end with people arguing about which one is faster, reliable, sounds better, does my wife better, etc.

At the end of the day, I don't really care. I think truck owners nowadays have some of the best truck engines ever designed. I'll be honest, I probably would be just as happy with a Chevy 5.3 or a Toyota 5.7...even a Dodge 5.7.

When it really comes down to it though...there's very little difference between all of them...and I've said it about 100 times since I've been on here...but each one has its niche. Can't people just leave it at that? I was reading a thread where someone said...I know these Ford techs and they said the 5.0 is in the shop 3x more often than the Ecoboost. Maybe that's true...but for what? A tail lamp replacement? Let's give people good information, not useless anecdotal crap. If you want to slam 5.0's or 3.5 EB's, at least provide a reason. Most of those conversations remind me of elementary school when some kid would say to another...my bike is better than yours for no reason except for that kid being insecure (because they're kids). We're adults...

Now...if there's a legitimate problem with an engine...please do tell us. Is your 5.0 consuming oil? Great...let us know. Is your EB studdering? Great...let us know. But don't let it end with...you would have avoided that if would have gone with the **___Insert Engine Choice Here__**

And another question...why does everyone care how fast their truck is? Who cares? I don't think there's one single one ton pick-up owner that gives a crap about how fast their truck can get to 60. Trucks are about utility...not speed. Anyway...that's my rant.

It's just that you are from Minnesota and azzholes bother you....like they do me...since I am from Minnesota as well.

So..about touch-up paint.

Apply a small amount of base color to fill the chip without going over the edge. Do this 3-4 times waiting 2-3 hours between dabs.

Repeat with clear coat. apply clear in coats until the final amount breaks the surface tension of the surrounding paint and lays out. allow to dry for 3-4 days.

Use a pencil eraser with 1500 grit wet dry paper and rub until smooth. you may have to apply more clear if it is below the surface level. then buff.

how do you like that for Minnesota nice touch-up paint suggestions?

But it works better on a truck that has a 5.0.

I can't stop myself now!

oh yeah, that was the 5.0 method. If you have an eco boost you demand a new truck from the nearest geographically located Ford, GM, or Ram dealer.
