4H, noise definitely goes away, but can very briefly come back if on/off the gas.

Did you try it like this? Pulling the lines off at the IWE's would do the same, but why crawl under when you can just pull the power under the hood.
I'm an olde guy, and do what's easiest.

I haven't done this yet, but will. Busy day today, but I hope to get to it.
Is the fuse or solenoid defined in the owners manual? I dont have a shop manual (yet) to locate it.

Here's a photo of my truck. Just follow the hose with the black and white checkvalves, down to the lower right corner. It connects to the solenoid, power connection is at the top of solenoid.

the 4A transfer case uses clutches for the auto. manual says to not plow with the system.
