Default IWE failure??

Driving to work this morning, already 20 minutes into my drive, doing 70mph, and a grinding noise starts in the front end. After a mile or two, slowed down and pulled into a rest stop, while traveling at slow speeds, front end was clunking. Put it in 4H, drove around a minute, Parked, waited a while, debated whether or not to call a tow truck, decided to try driving again back the other way toward the dealership, grinding/clunking not there anymore. Halfway to dealer, going around a long sweeping right turn, front drivers side starts makiing a noise and almost seems like it was skipping as if in 4wd.

Sounds like it to me from your description. Mine and others just sounded like a paint can rattle noise or similar. No clunking. Without the clunking, I’d suggest replacing the check valve. I suppose that could still solve your issue but, the clunking noise makes me say otherwise.

I would have to guess that it's your check valve, but the clunking is a little different. Your IWE trying to engage without actually engaging the solenoid points to a vacuum leak. The fact that it went into 4WD when you told it to tells me that the transfer case is fine. Was it cold this morning? Most people notice this when it starts to get cold out and the check valve flapper decides to not seal correctly.

Tell the whole story.
Why 2 seperate threads?
You had a shop try to install a RC level kit unsuccessfully the other day

Can't be a coincidence

and why exactly is it impossible that it is a coincidence? Could it be related? Of course. Man some really stuck up people on this forum. God forbid I post a thread looking for info or help about my $56,000 truck that made some abnormal noises and had a crazy vibration this morning.

yes sir, it was 12 degrees when I left my house, but it didn't happen until I had already been driving more than 20 mins.

and if it CANT POSSIBLY be a coincidence then why would I have driven the truck multiple times for multiple hours for multiple days AFTER picking the truck up from the unsuccessful level kit install?? The universe must not be aligned correctly!

This happened to me this morning.. I live in south MS and it was 18 degrees.. driving down the road all was good then just started grinding like it was trying to engage 4wd.. I slowed down and put it in 4wd and the noise stopped.. I made it to work and called the local dealer and they said they could look at it today so i brought it in.. Will update after they diagnose it.

Don't be surprised if they can't duplicate it. Hopefully they can, though. The good news is that it is more than likely just a $9 part.

It was still grinding as I pulled into their lane but I'm sure it stopped soon as I left haha I still have 6,000 miles of warranty at least
