Default IWE

Hey All,

Yesterday I installed a quick lift leveling kit by Rancho. Today I was driving to work and noticed screeching and grinding from the left driver side intermittently. placing the vehicle in four-wheel-drive seem to help alleviate the noise. Back story is a 2018 F1 50 with only 1000 miles on it. I know that the axle is in the hub correctly because when I rotate the tires the axle spins with the truck off however If I start the vehicle the axle is still spinning like there is no vacuum. If I place it into four-wheel-drive both wheels lock up and won’t let me free spin. any ideas what this could be? I researched I WE and wondering if I somehow messed something up just seems awkward if I did the install wrong that is both sides acting like this. I was under the impression when I’m 2h there is a vacuum pulled in the hub should rotate freely without the CV moving and then when four-wheel-drive is turned on the vacuum is lost and the cv Axle engages. Hoping I didn’t totally mess something up. Have to bring to the stealership but they can’t get me in till next week and I’m afraid to drive it.

Known issue with F150's. You can buy the part on Amazon for $9. Buy a few and carry in your glovebox.

Quicker and better than every dealing with a dealer. Yeah, sucks we have to buy and carry parts with us, but that's Ford for ya.

damn man. Thanks info. Even with only 1000 miles? Did me installing the new strut cause that to fail? Mind boggling

Also, if you leave it in 4A, you can drive it no problem. The problem only exists in 2 wheel drive.

On my Raptor it happened at like 10,000 miles...but I've heard and read about it happening at all different level of miles, and several times. Thus folks just buy a couple of the valves and keep them in the glove box.

Chances are if you're only experiencing this after the level kit install, that valve is not your problem and the IWE itself has been damaged. It's easy to damage them if you aren't experienced.

I just had check valve and 2 actuators replaced under warranty due to grinding noise. Referenced TSB 18-2273 and mine was C that was done.
2016 Lariat with 50000 kms on it.

so your thinking I’ll have to pay and not have warranty cover? What’s odd is if the iwe was bad i would assume it wouldn’t engage at all it appears it’s always engaged.

Are you sure you have vacuum at BOTH IWEs?

Correct me if I’m wrong as I’m new to Ford I’ve been a Gm guy. I thought when the truck was off that would mean the actuator has no vacuum to the iwe when you spin the tires the CV axle with Spin as well. That’s how I knew I had it splined right in there. I started the truck which assuming I had vacuum should mean that when I spin the tires the hub should rotate freely without the CV half shaft engaged. Right? It doesn’t matter when the truck is off or on the cv axles are spinning with the tire. When I put 4 wheel then the stop because the differential is engaged. That make sense?

Take the check valve out and blow into it both ways. If air passes through both ways, thats your problem.
