Default It's Cam Phaser Time!

2018 XLT 3.5EB and making the phaser sound at cold startup.
48500 Miles.
I figure while they are in there to just pay for new chains, tensioners, guides, crank sprocket, water pump, hoses and belts since there shouldn't be any extra labor.

Thoughts? Did I miss something?

Thanks

I am not aware on the 2nd gen of anyone needing new chains, tensioners, guides, or sprocket. Let us know if you find the contrary that they are wearing out.
Even for the WP, it is externally accessible so probably not worth changing now. Same with the water hoses, not sure they degrade.
I don't think those are a good use of funds, even for parts, at 48.5k miles. And I do a lot of proactive maintenance.

I think new belts is a good idea. Esp with the stretch belt for the AC compressor?

Did you miss the CSP notice that Ford extended the warranty on the cam phasers toi 70k miles if you followed the program?

I think OP is saying while the phasers are replaced under warranty, should they throw any other parts at it ?

My 2018 had the phasers replaced at 28k miles. The night I took it home an even worse noise was present. Turned out a chain tensioner was bad as well so they replaced that and all is good now.

i don’t think it’s common and honestly probably just a bad job by the mechanic on the initial phaser repair. Food for thought anyway.

Thanks! I have always been under the assumption that chains and sprockets should all be changed at the same time as the parts "marry" together. I'll check the price and if its reasonable I'll pick up the whole shebang. I would hate to have them have to go back in at a later date and want this all handled up once and for all.

I got the letter and got the reflash before the date so should be good.

I was thinking the same as the OP, but its up to Ford what there going to replace and I have the ext warranty so I'll just let them make the call on what's to be replaced. If it wasn't a warranty then absolutely I would be having other items all changed since its all being removed.
Taking mine in next week to check. I just started to get the cold start ratcheting noise 42k, I hope the dealer doesn't mess around.
The latest design of the cam phaser looks promising. Now if we are getting these parts is the question!

I def will make sure the ML3Z phasers are going in or won't have it done until they are available as I still have 20K to go until i have to pay.

Figures. I just got this done in August. Got covered at 66% under the extended warranty. Hopefully it goes bad again under my warranty for customer participation and I can get it done free with the new phasers.
