Default Interior accessory trim issue

Good afternoon,

I had a Trailer Brake Controller installed by the dealer. This ugly looking film on the center console trim (2) is exposed now. I know that wasn't showing before. It would seem to me that the TBC trim (1) is pushed forward too far or perhaps the TBC has a thinner face plate profile than the coin holder that it replaced.

If I try pulling the TBC trim (1) back out, I think it would leave an air gap between it and the TBC plate it covers.
Is the solution here to pull the center console trim (2) and peel off that layer of clear tape? (if so, what other pieces of trim, if any, do I need to pull before I can pull out the center console trim? I don't want to break any of this plastic.)

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Is that a typical result when the dealer adds such a thing? If not, have the dealer fix it. That looks rough. I'd be a bit afraid to start jacking around with it, for fear of scratches to the trim pieces. Any damage you cause trying to fix their mistake may be on you. Unless there is a compelling reason to avoid the dship, I'd go back to them and let them fix it and deal with any resulting paint damage to the trim pieces, in case it occurs. If it were in a less noticeable location, I may take a swing at it, but not in that area. Hope it gets resolved, whether you or they do it. Could be nothing more than a clip is not completely fastened down and you fix it with no issue. That would drive me nuts.

I sent an email off to the dealership 5 minutes ago. I think they get ownership of this since I paid for the TBC and the installation. It looks like I could have at this but with all that brittle plastic, I don't want to break anything. Also I don't have at rim remover tool. I have to go back to the dealership this afternoon anyway to return my rental car to them. Maybe the accessories guy and his team and tackle it then. It's a 15 minute job to begin with.

Thank you!

There is a small degree of fore-aft play in the clips that hold the console in place. I'd guess it could be popped up, slid forward, and snapped back down.

correct. It needs slid forward. I've had mine off 5 or 6 times.

If that film is showing. It is not installed correctly. You should be able to see that. It's not snapped all the way down. Believe me. Raise your console lid. Grab the trim pull up on it wiggle it forward till the film disappears then press it into place. You should not have any gap where the gray meets the black.

You were 100% correct.

I stopped waiting for the dealer to get back to me and grabbed some liquid courage (coffee) and went out to the driveway with a few screwdrivers and narrow putty knives to use as trim removal tools. I popped the console trim off without too much trouble. I noticed 1 of 2 white clips on the console tabs was already missing (into the console abyss) and so I just removed the other one and tossed it into the glove compartment. I figured it was only going to make the re-installation that much harder.

While I was in there I trimmed this down at an angle on both sides because the trim wasn't wanting to go back in.

Looking better now. Thank you all for the help!
