Default Insurance module

Any comments on the safe driver module from the insurance company? They monitor your driving habits through a module plugged in to the OBD port, and give you a discount for safe driving.
I've been using it for a while now, and getting 10+ % discount, but now the truck is running wonky, warning lights, etc
They sent me a new module, but it's doing it again.
Anyone using one that works okay? Mine is from Allstate

UPDATE - I took the truck in to the dealer, and they said that the module is causing the problem - causing the computer malfunction, and suggested that I remove the module. I did so, and the errors stopped occurring. I called the Allstate help team, and asked them about it, and they did acknowledge that it could cause such errors, and said that I should remove it and not bother using it any more.
So I'll return the module th=o my agent and be done with it.
Thanks!

Big no from me. Why people want to be tracked for a slight rebate is beyond me.

What is everyone paying for insurance anyways? Only around $900/yr here for me.

At my age,I would never agree to be tracked by an insurance company to be eligible for a discount. If I was younger say in my early 20s, then maybe since rates are much higher for that age group. But now, I prefer to let my lack of accident/incidents and lack of any citations speak for itself.

I'm at $1085/year for $500k/$500k. Used to be a lot lower before we added the 21 year old to the policy!

Friar,

We have AAA insurance and I tried their Smar Trek module back in December and another module in March and it was a frikken fiasco.

The Smart Trek modules supplied by Octo Technologies to AAA Insurance in March this year (2020) have been determined not to be compatible with my 2019 F150 truck. We tried two modules, one without any consistent tracking and a second that would not send data at all.

The excuse was that their programmers could not possibly cover all new vehicle software. They can't produce a compatible module for the largest selling pickup truck in the USA? Then they suggested a cell phone 'dead zone." We are in the DC, Phila, NYC corridor there there are NO cell phone dead zone areas here. After those lame excuses I cancelled both vehicles from the AAA Smart Trek program and we will be looking for another insurer when our policy date is due. My wife and I are 'top-tier' insured with no violations or other issues.

Your experience may vary but the Smart Trek system plug-in module used by AAA Insurance for a new F150 was simply and unmitigated amateur failure at best. It did work on our 2012 Highlander but not the new F150.

There is no reason to wait until the policy period has expired. Insurers are required to fully refund any remaining on the policy up to the day you get new coverage.

FG,

I realize that, it's just a hassle going to a local agent with our current policy evaluation details. We have their default 10% discount for trying their Smart Trek module and we are due to renew in November. To busy here for a change right now.

I haven't used any such device but I have a question.

You are saying that your truck is throwing error lights, etc. but want to know which other insurance module will make your truck not throw errors.
question: How do you know for certain you aren't having a truck issue vs. the insurance module causing the warning lights.
Have to ask because as written, you haven't indicated why it is fault of the insurance module.

I have to wonder if the data those tracking devices provide could be used against you. Possibly by your own insurance company.
We all know insurance companies are not your friend, they're not on your side and will go to great lengths to not pay for injuries sustained in an accident.
