Yes there was a bad batch of valve guides on 2016 causing oil consumption.

Yeah, I saw that, but they will be out of my price range so I'm going CPO.

As a matter of fact those early engines are turning out to be really reliable.
Well that's good to know. I'm actually checking out an 2015 with only 28,000 miles on the clock tomorrow.

Not only that, but the 18s are also showing a decent bump in hp on the dynos that I've seen. I would guess its mainly from less drive train loss with the new 10sp.

Our 2.7 is a rocket ship. My 5.0 is only slightly quicker but the 2.7 eats the 5.0s lunch when at high altitude. Past 9000 Ft above sea level, the eco boost just drives like a freight train. The V8 struggles.

Maybe it’s just me but I came from a 2015 mustang gt and was very impressed by the crew cab with the 2.7 in it, and at the end of the day I ended up bringing one home.

IMO the 2.7L Eco Boost is plenty of engine in a Super Cab 4X4 the 2015 I had ran a 14.53@92.55 mph bone stock the 2017 XL STX Super Crew 4x4 I have now with the 3.5L Eco Boost 10 speed automatic and Max Tow Package is only a tenth faster in the 1/4 mile then the 2015 was!!!

The crewcab is too heavy for the 2.7, IMO. YMMV.

I test drove a 2.7L, 3.5L and a 5.0L all back to back and all similarly equipped (Supercrew, FX4, XLT 302A) when truck shopping. I was amazed by the 2.7L with the power and amount of low end grunt it had. Really didn't see the need for the 3.5L since I'm not towing heavy and while the 5.0 sounded great, it didn't have the low end torque that I like coming from a diesel.

I have a 98 gt with over 400hp that's fed by a KB, and this truck feels more nimble.

Good choice OP! Especially if you only tow half the average tow ratings, or less. Fantastic on gas. I've had my 2015 over 3 years now and have 91k with zero issues. I tow a 5000 lb travel trailer all summer, and pull my 7500 lb boat with ease. Get the payload package if you can, and 3.73 gearing which seems to make for a great combo with the 2.7. The 2015's seem to be a good year, which is odd for a first-year gen. I had one TSB for oil sensor leak which was fixed on my first service, and that's it. Look through all the listed TSB's, they mostly apply to 16's and newer. Even a couple for 15's didn't even apply to mine because of the February build date.

(For mobile views who can't see signatures) Mine's a XLT Sport, 302A, SuperCrew, 4x4, FX4 with payload and tow package and 3.73 gears (locking diff).

Good luck on picking your ride!
