IDS req'd for remote access install?
Hi, tried to buy the remote access module [and security module] for my 2016 Lariat today. Parts guy had the boxes on the counter ready to go - and I asked him to make sure they activate the module. He went back to his accessory guy and was apparently told IDS is required [Well, in his parlance, a $1500 tool to program them] and that they couldn't sell me the modules unless they installed them.
All my reading on here says this is false. Can someone please confirm? Does anyone know any good dealers in Alberta/Canada that will sell me these things and activate them appropriately?
Thank you!

Maybe they need IDS to activate the SIM in the remote module, I don't know. But I would question why they don't already have IDS at the dealer. Or are they trying to say you need to buy IDS?
I bought from Banner ford on ebay and after installing (about 10 minutes) they activated the SIM and I signed up for the subscription, $50/year.

Yes, IDS is needed to enable the VSS and RSS. However, I would check the forscan thread (and ask there) as I'd think it would be able to enable/activate the modules cheaper by buying a dongle and getting the software than the dealer might charge.
I have no idea why they would not sell you the modules though?? It ought to simply be the VSS and RSS (with keys.) That is very odd.

IDS is only used to enable the alarm and remote start. If your vehicle already has a perimeter alarm and remote start then no IDS intervention is needed.
The actual service is activated through a tab in dealer OASIS access which only authorized Ford accessory dealers have access to.

If your vehicle doesn't have remote start already then you will need to have it enabled thru IDS which any dealer will do for a fee. As far as activating the sim on the rmu module it cant be done until you install the system. Normally who ever you purchased the system from will activate it for free online.
Try Banner Auto this who I purchased mine from. Only takes a few minutes to install (plug & play) then send him an email with the sim number and he will activate it and send you a 4 digit pin so you can add it to your remote access account and start using it.
I didn't take mine to the dealer I used forscan.

I would think a Lariat already has alarm and remote start enabled, no IDS or forscan required. Maybe not. Or it's different in Canadada...

I installed the Alarm System and Cellular Remote Module on my 2017 XL without remote start and enabled it with ForScan, no problem. I did have to call Levittown Ford to have them activate the cellular parts, which they did for Free. The ForScan Guide tells you exactly what to change. The kit was super easy to install.
