I suspect, when you start calculating actual mileage, you'll be pleasantly surprised, and happy you (she) chose the Honda.

I looked back (8-8-18) in the "lie-o-meter" adjustment thread, to when I adjusted the fuel bias to reflect reality. At that time I posted in the thread that the truck was showing 30,500 miles and when I dropped the fuel bias back to 925, that the trucks lifetime mpg dropped from 22.2 to 20.5, which honestly was heartbreaking.
As the miles have climbed the lifetime mpg has slowly climbed a little with it.
Had I never adjusted the meter the picture above would show something like 22.7. Nice but not anywhere near real.

Same here. Mine still reads 21.5 or so, but I’m also only 5100 miles in and the pandemic has reduced mileage overall but increased the proportion of short trips.

Oh, there's going to be a difference, I was just surprised Toyota is out-Honda'ing Honda.

The Escape was a 1.6L turbo... She's no Vaughn Gittin Jr, but she also doesn't bother with stuff like selecting gears to stay out of boost, she just gets in and goes. The N/A 1.8L in the Honda, combined with her moving work locations next week to drop her office distance from 32mi to 12mi (one-way) is going to help the gas bill. Although it might not be as noticeable due to the start having everyone work from home as much as possible the past 16 months. She still has to drive all over the state, but that's either in a state vehicle or with a decent mileage reimbursement. The HR-V's estimated ownership cost is close, just 2¢ more per mile. The Escape was 12¢ more per mile than the reimbursement.

Very nice OP. I too am shocked at both the power and fuel economy of these engines. Combined with a smooth and quiet ride...

You may want to consider a 36 gallon tank swap, the 700+ mile range per fillup is amazing!

Whether the reality is actually much less than what a lot have posted in countless threads like this...the facts still remain pretty sweet. The ability to wring so much power out of every molecule of fuel is amazing frankly. I remember my '77 Chevy with a 305 2 barrel carb that only got 10 mpg. Modern engines...wow!

73" wide, 69" tall, it is rated 35mpg. Amazing mileage for a N/A engine Vs just ten years ago.

Continuing the off-thread discussion, does anyone else think the 2022 Escape looks like a Fusion and a Cayenne had a bastard child?
Isnt the new RAV4 a hybrid?

Not sure what the HR-V is.

We are going to buy a new Sienna.
35 mpg, heck yeah.

No. It's an option. They (RAV4) all come with the base 2.5 l engine, but the hybrid is an upgrade on a few trim lines. I believe the hybrid also replaces the 8 speed transmission with a ECVT... Hybrid also has about 18 more horses under the hood. The hybrid with the extra horses and ECVT felt like a better drive than the non hybrid.. We got the hybrid... It was about $800.00 more.

So far happy. Getting about 38 MPG....Hardly any highway miles...
Only sore point is the gas tank size... It's only 14.5 gallons. My F150 can go just as far as the RAV.... But it's a lot more to fill up at the pump...
