Default Homelink

I have factory ordered a black 2015 XLT XTR package. Apparently 8 weeks, we'll see.

My truck won't have homelink on the visor or mirror. Since Sync mic is on the overhead lights, could I get the homelink mirror off eBay or buy a homelink module and install it into the visor?

You can install the module in the visor, less than $25 on eBay. Many threads on it.

Along the topic of HomeLink, is anyone else having trouble linking the HomeLink in the truck to your garage system? I can not get it to work at all, using hand held clicker right now. I came from a 2012 KR and the HomeLink in it only worked half of the time. I am fairly certain it is not my garage system since my wife's Honda Accord's HomeLink (version of) works 100% of the time and with much better range.

Make sure it's an actual Homelink brand. My '13 came with Car2U or something like that. It never worked right from the day I got the truck. I ripped it out and put a Homelink brand in. Worked great ever since.

It is just the standard universal garage door opener that comes as an option on the KR. Not sure the brand, can't locate it on my window sticker.

If I remember correctly, the other system had three lights and didn't have the "house" logo around the buttons. If it's not a Homelink, spend the 30 minutes and $25 to get one. Worth every penny.

Ford switched to Car2U a few years back.

The way to tell which you have, is too look at it. If you see three buttons with a picture of a house above them, it's Homelink. Three lights and no house picture, it's Car2U. Car2U has issues, often requires a repeater.

Car2U seems to have a much more limited range and somewhat more difficult to program. You'll find posts of people that removed theirs and put in Homelink. My truck didn't come with anything, I bought Homelink on eBay for ~$20 and installed it, and it looks factory original.

I found these helpful:

Tools required were a butter knife, a credit card that could get nicked up (i.e. a stiff plastic card), some electrical tape, and clean hands.

Here's my install:
