Default Help With Mounting Lights !!!!!

Quick question with regards to mounting lights to the front of my pickup....... I have a 2015 with the 2.7 ecoboost and was wondering about mounting lights in the lower grille , will this cause a issue with air flow? My pickup has the licence plate installed in the opening now but afraid to mount lights here afraid the turbos may not get enough airflow.... What do you ppl think? Pics attached

I have heard different comments about obstructing the airflow. I saw someone put a LED light bar across the same area and he stated that he has not noticed any problems or air temperature differences on his Livewire Tuner. On the other-hand I have heard that it actually does prevent correct airflow. Probably the only thing would be is to install it and monitor everything.

The intercooler is behind there (not the turbo's). Basically you'll be making your intake air temps hotter for the engine (because you're definitely blocking airflow), which ultimately means less performance. For regular putzing around town driving, maybe you wouldn't notice it. But if you're towing, or actually want your engine to run optimally, then you probably don't want to block your intercooler.

As for how to mount them - i have no answer for you.

I was going to mount some duallys there and gave up because there was no good way to bolt them down - with the 3.5/2.7

I had a Setina bar put on and am mounting my Rigid bars to that instead of the truck.

Howdy;

That is going to be far too restrictive.

And - if you ever have to have warranty work on yer engine and a dealer sees that, be prepared to hear the term 'denied'.

Yer main grill will house a small narrow lightbar - and look better as well.

BTW - Keep the plate mount off.

good luck

Why not cutout the inserts on either side of that hole and mount the lights in there? They can't be that expensive to buy if you want to put it back to stock... Or maybe just remove them completely and insert lights? Putting them there means you could probably fit 4 lights instead of 3.

Thanks for the info, I went ahead and installed only two lights on the outsides to keep the airflow to the cooler!! Has anyone had any experience with running the wiring on these trucks? I cannot find a way to even run the wires from the lower grille to the engine bay

Wellsir - just follow the route that block heater cord uses. Do not poke any additional holes in that shroud area (unless you seal them) to minimize bleeding off cooling air to the CAC.

And my previous caveat still applies - the dealer may still not view any NON-Factory obstructions kindly if there is a future warranty concern.

good luck

Another option would be to get the upgraded intercooler kit (I think I saw one at Stage3motorsports). There's one that claims to flow better and it mounts up behind the grille leaving the lower area available for mods like yours without warranty issues (I assume). That kit's intercooler has connection points for a Water/Meth kit as well if you get the performance bug at some point.
