Gordy,If there is no IPMB, what “directs” the video signal from the camera to the screen?

APIM, the drawing that are shown in one of the previous messages shows it, touchscreen without 360 cameras. That's how I installed it on my 2015 XL. It turns on automatically when you put the truck in reverse.

Does the truck have Sync 2 or 3 in it?

Bonus!! I have only a back up camera and had to have my IPMB replaced a couple of years ago. It's an image processor and without it, your camera doesn't put a picture up on your screen.

Well poo, I though the original poster had a 2015, duh. I went from Sync1 to Sync3, with Sync3 my APIM does the rear camera, I have no IPMB. I did notice needing a IPMB with either 360 cameras or trailer assist. Going back into my corner now.

How would you tell if it's a Sync 1, 2 or 3?

I have a buddy that has a 2015 (or 2016, can't remember) F150 XL with Sync 1 that didn't already have a camera and he just got the handle, a camera and a wiring harness and installed them then used FORScan to change some value from 0 to 2 in one of the modules (don't remember the details) and the camera did display on his Sync. It didn't show the guidelines though. I assume I can do the same on mine, seeing how it came with a camera already installed. Who knows, guess I'll find out.

@Gordy49913 You will have an IPMB if you have pro trailer assist with rear camera only. Without pro trailer with rear camera only there is no IPMB.

Since you have a 2016, chances are you have Sync3 if you have the 8 inch screen. If the truck came with the camera, its turned on and ready to go already, something is failing and causing it to not work. If you had Forscan, you could go in and see if you have any DTC error messages. Not sure if they will show with a standard error reader. My reading ability this morning is lacking, for some reason I thought you had a 2015 with a 4.2 inch screen. One of the menu choices on the big screen will give you the version of the software.

@Wraithvenge I'm a little confused on what you have going on. Did you add the camera and are trying to get it to work? Did you just get the truck, can see the camera in the tailgate but it has never worked?

Just got the truck (a 2016 F150 XLT 4WD) a few weeks ago. There is a factory installed camera in the tailgate handle but it doesn't turn on in reverse and there is no option in the dash cluster vehicle menu settings to turn it on. Sync is the small non-touchscreen version and has no camera settings I can find. I'll try and upload a pic of the dash, maybe that'll help.
