Has the lighter weight of the aluminum F150's translated in MPG improvements?

It's not really that complicated, folks.
All other things being equal, if your aluminum truck weighs LESS than a steel truck, you'll see better MPGs. Not in integer values, but better nonetheless.
It takes less energy to move less weight over the same distance and speed (again, assuming all other things being equal, such as coefficient of drag, incline/decline, etc.).

I literally get a couple mpg's worse than my 2013 FX4 for some strange reason. Same configuration, same engine. Nothing in the bed on either truck. Same exact driving roads and distances everyday.
I was getting 22-23 mpg with my 2013 and now I'm getting like 19.6

Coming from a 08' Tacoma where my best ever was 19 to a full size truck with more power and appeal and getting better economy I can't complain. I do hate that the computer is consistently inaccurate regarding gallons used thus making my hand calculation a consistent 1.5MPG less than the computer readout, but it's still better than what I had. Even with winter gas, a lift and 34" tires.
At about 7800 miles and the lifetime readout is at 20.3. I've seen as high as 23 off a 36 gallon tank and a low of 17. I've had 100-200 mile trips where I got 25 (before lift and tires).

Definitely seeing a mileage boost compared to the bigger Ecoboost.
What gets me is the gallons of fuel consumed seems to be 10% low on the dash. But if you add up the miles driven and remaining fuel range and divide by the max capacity of your fuel tank, you get a mpg that is close to dividing your miles driven on a tank by the gallons you pump in. So it seems that the truck knows the true mpg when calculating important things like when you will be running on fumes and yet bumps the reported mpg up by 10% on the trip meter.
So truck says 20 mpg for the trip meter with around 18 gallons used, I put in 20 gallons for 360 miles and calculate 18. And yet before I fill up the fuel range is at 55 miles. The range should read 100 miles if the truck uses its gallon count. Now if it really knows that it has used 20 gallons, then the 55 mile remaining range is accurate. I wonder if they tried to build in a safety factor for the remaining range and ended up decreasing the reported gallons used. Sometimes errors are not as well fact checked if the error is a positive result like boosting the reported mpg by 10%.

- My previous 2014 F150 Screw 3.5L V6, 3.55 rear, Ecoboost 4x4 got 16MPG hand calculated over 14 month (11k miles) ownership.
- My current 2015 F150 Screw 2.7L V6 Ecoboost, 3.73 rear, 4x4 gets 17.1MPG hand calculated over 6 month (7k miles) ownership.
- In the summer 2015 F150 I noticed 1.5MPG improvement on full tank of gas.
- When towing same 1500lbs travel trailer 2015 gets 1 to 1.5MPG less (13.5MPG vs. 12MPG)
- MPG on hwy speed of 75 to 80MPH (where I live 80MPH is posted speed in interstate) 2015 F150 gets 1-2MPG less (19-20MPG vs 17-18MPG).
- Per window sticker my payload has increased from 1500lbs to 2000lbs on 2015 F150.
- Curve weight of the truck has decreased 800lbs on 2015 F150
- Lie-o-meter on 2014 was always 0.5MPG off but on 2015 it's always 1.5 to 2MPG off. Meaning computer always says truck is getting better MPG than reality. Never believe how many gallons used on dash since last reset when it was filled full. You will run out of gas. Many times I put 34-35 gallons when lie-o-meter says truck used 29-31 gallons since last fillup.
