GM was like that with the ignition switches, wonder if they learned anything. Other than don't send emails about problems.

I know what that means. They'll have my truck all day, burn half a tank of gas joy-riding it all over the county just to have me come pick it up and say "we couldn't reproduce the issue"

Pisses me off..
That is why I'm waiting for someone to get something from Ford in writing or there is a TSB before I tank mine in, unless of course it gets a lot worse and I can repeat it for them.

I can say that mine is doing the same thing.. 5.0 lariet FX4. From 5th to 4th with a touch of throttle the truck downshifts really hard.. I have 6500 on it and haven't taken it to the dealer because I know they won't be able to recreate it.. Hoping Ford will fix the issue..

They won't fix it if they don't know there is a problem. I've got better things to do than take mine in to a dealer and sit there all day for them to tell me there isn't a fix. But that's what I'm going to do. Writing elaborate posts on here won't fix it. And neither will waiting for everyone else to get the run around. Just my $.02.

Hi trich88,

Please shoot me a PM with the year and mileage of your truck; I'll see how I can help.

Chad,

No one has asked me for my info. Unless I missed it. Would it help to get y'all involved? I already have a dealer appointment scheduled for tomorrow about the harsh shifting from 5th to 4th.

Thanks,
Brian

+1
I brought mine in for this problem knowing that they most likely couldn't reproduce it or fix it but I wanted to get it on the books early that I've got the problem, and figured the more folks that actually take their trucks in, the more seriously they'll take this.

Add me to the list. 3100km and I just noticed this today going through town. Tried to get it to do it again by coasting and applying break to go from 5th to 4th but wouldn't do it. It happened twice so far so I will monitor it and this thread to see what comes about. It wasn't crazy hard but I know the truck never downshifted the way it did that I would notice it until today.

So I talked with the service manager today and although there isn't a TSB yet, there is an SSM (?). I think he said Special Service Memo. It explained the situation of shifting down from 5th to 4th. While or immediately after coasting with slight application of the throttle. Exactly what I'm experiencing. The memo said engineering is working on it and it will not harm the drive train. Basically it's a software issue and they're working on the code to fix it. I asked about a time line and he couldn't say for sure, but I forced him to give me a rough estimate on how long these memos normally take and he said he'd guess 2 months.

On a side note, there was nothing in his system relating to my cooled seats not cooling.

Caper3x,

I don't think I've ever had it while braking. To me it feels like the torque converter is locked in 5th and then it doesn't unlock before it shifts. Because if I pay really close attention the engine sounds slightly different when it does it. By the sound I can tell of it is going to clunk or not. I figured that out by trying to replicate it. I got pretty good at it, then the service manager didn't even want to ride with me. Lol

Yes it might of happened when coasting then applying gas then the truck downshifts to compensate. I never paid attention until I felt the shift and was like what was that. Like I said its not like a hard slam but I did start to pick up on it tonight. I know when I make a turn slow enough and apply gas it will shift from 3rd to 2nd and I do feel it, but its not as hard as 5th to 4th.
