Mine only did it when the transmission was cold and I was giving it too much gas. I did get it reflashed and it made a difference. Never had the issue before when it was warm though. I must say that the entire transmission feels completely different since the flash and it much smoother now. No difference in the steering though, I think that's just in your head...

I was serious about the steering. I'm wondering if the power is variable and controlled by the ECU.

If this is true, then perhaps the re-flash re-set the adaptation of the variable steering. Now the power steering feels more powerful until about 40 mph or so.

Call dealer and asked about the TSB on the shift update. My VIN not in the batch, but bring her in anyway. Made an appointment.

Twenty minutes in the stall, re-flash the thing. Good to go.

Could tell immediately in the parking lot. Smmmmmoooooth shifting. Power steering even feels better and smoother.

Headed for our steepest hill. Set up the down hill scenario, GOOD TO GO. Auto downshifts like butter now.
Thanks for the info, SPOAT - I've had a few harsh 5 to 4 down shifts, nothing like you and others described but something I noticed nonetheless.

I also have a Jan 2016 build date and do not qualify for the TSB - My question, when they reflashed yours, did they actually flash a new trans strategy code or just reset the adaptives on it?

That's really weird. I didn't notice anything with the steering. Did they say it changes the steering too when you got it done?

I noticed the easier steering and wheel centering on its own right away while pulling out of the dealer... But turns out didn't help the heavy steering on the highway which is my last major complaint with this truck..

Trying to figure out a Forscan fix...

Yes, new code. The mechanic told me that they had two improvements since mine was built in January.

I know a tsb is out there for hard 5-4 down shifts. I've called my dealer
twice with no call back.

Mine has the same 5 to 4 harsh downshifting but my bulid datell is April 2016 and TSB stops 12/15. Took it to dealer, he did something with a laptop and said if It is still doing in 5 days to bring it back. that is frustrating because it still doing it

Probably just reset the trans, similar to a battery disconnect for 15 minutes.
