Default Gear Indicator Wrong When Driving

As of recently I have been noticing that the gear indicator has been showing the wrong gear while driving. I have a 2020 SCAB 5.0 with 3.73s and im currently at around 71k miles. Not tuned, a few minor forscan things. I captured a video on my phone but will not let me upload it. For over a minute I was going down the road at approx. 70mph the truck gear indicator moved from 9-10 but the truck was still in 9th. A little over 2 miles later, you could hear and see the RPMs drop as it finally shifted into 10th. Has anyone had this happen? Is this normal? Fixes if it is not? It has done this in other gears besides 9-10 for instance it did it while accelerating from a stop light a few days earlier and it said it was in 3rd but was indeed in 5th. And caught up to itself approx. 15sec later. Any insight would be appreciated!

Are you sure you are not "feeling" the torque converter locking in instead of gears shifting?

I agree, that final feeling of a shift may be the converter lock.

I do agree that with the 3.73 that it should be in 10th. My concern is that generally I don't get a 200 or so RPM loss when the torque convertor locks up. I really wish I could upload the video so you could watch the rpms drop. I also don't think that the torque convertor would be locking up in 3rd when accelerating normally from a stop light. I could be way off and I know I forgot to mention the RPM drop but it felt like a shift from 9-10 and the rpms dropped as if it were a shift.

My 6r80 only exhibits an unlocked to locked rpm drop shifting into 3rd. Nothing in any of the other gears.

I have felt it only into 3rd and around 53 into 6th, but I am also tuned by Oz, so maybe it's a little different on my 6R80

Finally figured out how to get these videos on the site. I did have to shorten them to be under the size limits for the site. Again, I could be wrong but that doesnt appear to be the TC lock up in my opinion but let me know what you think. Both instances shown in those videos the truck was driving for several miles (2-3ish) indicating 10th gear but then would have the actual RPM drop at its own convienance. These happen to be when it was cold out in WI but the truck was allowed to warm up for several minutes before driving but the same thing will happen occasionally in the summer time so Im not sure the temperature has anything to do with it or if the truck is warm.

Unless you hook up some diagnostic equipment you have no idea what is actually happening. My money is on the gear indicator being correct with something else going on.

Yep. I hope someone else is driving while the OP is staring at the gear indicator.
