Default Fx ride quality

I will be ordering a 2018 soon and can't decide on the fx package. I don't go off roading often but would like to have it for those instances.

However, I have heard the ride is much more firm and if you don't go off road a lot, it is better to avoid it. I do tend to take more long highway family trips then go off roading.

What are your experiences/thoughts?

I don't know about how much more firm it is, but it does make a difference. I love having the hill descent for the 2 times a year that I use it, but didn't want the package. I drive in more fields than most, but don't go "off roading" in my Lariat.

After having it for 2 years. I would still look for one without it. JMO

The FX package is worth it. You get the skid plate, hill descent control, and E-locker. If the ride quality isn't quite right it is a frequent mod to replace the rear shocks with those that are better performing and can improve ride quality.

I have the FX and it's really stiff! It has the "death wobble" if you drive quickly over railroad tracks. Great support when lugging heavy things in your box though! I'd still recommend!

if you dont go often and just need the 4x4 for random situations why not just get the truck with the 4x4 option and save some money. that being said I love my fx4. I hit the mud or "sticky" situations at least once a month though.

That concerns me and I know price wise it is worth it (as a package). BUT if I have to change the shocks it isn't such a good value anymore. I could always keep standard and add in skid plates. I will get it if it is the same ride or close to it but if it is a lot firmer, that will just suck for long highway trips.

the 'death wobble' is a function of having a live axle and leaf springs.

When I ordered my 2015 lariat I purposely skipped the fx4 package for this reason. After test driving two trucks back to back with and without fx4 I though it felt stiffer. ( definitely could of just been in my head) So i added the locking rear and skid plates seperately.
Thinking about ordering an 18 now and unsure if i will do the same again.
