I only use top tier 93 in my 5.0, generally Costco or other if not near/travelling. 2018+ Coyotes feel and drive gimped and lazy on 87 and ping and knock, these are high compression blocks at 12:1, dyno even shows 20hp difference between 87 and 93 on factory tune. Any modern engine sensors can pull back, you could run 87 in a GT3... sure as hell won't be happy though lol. You can run 87 in the Coyote, it's not happy either, hell I got pinging/knocking in flat sea level FL and slight hills in GA.

I use mid-grade. All my noises went away after I did.

Been running 87 in mine since day one, never pinged, knocked or anything else and will run like a bat out of hell when I want it to. Something must be wrong with ya'll's truck.

Per your signature, you have a '16 - That's a gen 2 coyote with 11:1 compression and runs fine on 87. My '13 was a gen 1, also 11:1 compression and ran fine on 87.

The OPs is a '19 is a gen 3 and has 12:1 compression and can knock on 87. My '18 does the same. Many others with 18+ 5.0s have the same issue.

Looking at your post you have a 2016, that's why. 15-17 and 11-14 were fine on 87 and they were lower compression, I had both gens. 18+ blocks are night and day different between the di/pi combo and 12:1 compression ratio. That's why like on my '19 5.0 Platinum it's a big difference running 93 like basically anyone sees. Running 93 in the previous blocks on factory tune did nothing (untuned), nevermind running better also about a 20hp difference on an 18+ Coyote between 87 and 93 on dyno. 87 in a 3rd Gen Coyote = lazy feeling and ping ding dong knock pong knock

Edit - robbgt just beat me to it lol

Running 93 in my 18 3.3L 12:1 compression with a 5 star tune. On stock tune/87 the less power is very noticeable. Also switching between 93 brands there's a difference, seems to like Shell 93 the best. E85 gives it even more power.

I run 91 or 93 in the summer towing season, and 87 or 89 the rest of the year. I'd love to see how the truck performs on E85, but it's generally not available to me locally.
