This is timely. I have a question for people who know more about this than I do.

I bought a '19 with a chrome package. I don't like chrome, but the rest of the truck was what I wanted.

So I'm covering up some of the chrome. I used a rattle can of matched paint to do my door handles and mirror caps. Hyperdip on some other pieces. I'm happy with the results. And I was planning on removing the chrome bumpers to rattle can them next spring.
But the chrome durability is worth considering. My last truck with painted bumpers was showing dots of rust within the first 4 or 5 years.

If I paint the chrome bumpers, I'd scuff the chrome before self etching primer, etc.

Question - am I dooming the bumpers to the same type of pinhole rust as any other painted steel bumper? Or would the scuffed chrome under all of the layers of paint offer a more rust resistant base than paint over steel?

Not really. With rattle cans? You're just dooming yourself to unsightly peeling paint

I wouldn’t dream of doing that to such a nice new truck. I’d either leave the chrome for durability, swap bumpers and have them professionally painted, or plastidip the bumpers so it can be removed without damage.

There are some plastic covers you can put on them that look pretty good. I can't remember what they are called offhand but I've seen them in a few threads here.

Of course, that plastic is probably going to trap some water so who knows what will happen long term.

This^ ecological bumper shells. That's what I would do. Least expensive option. And will be 10000 times better than rattle canning chrome

Default 2007 Ford front bumper

Trying to get a how do I say, longer looking bumper. I’d like to put the f250 or f350 bumper on my f150 does anyone know if they fit? I have a 2007 f150

Get aftermarket bumpers. Fixing or repainting doesn't work because they are all made with recycled steel.

Because it IS a truck... its original purpose is a work horse, and depending on trim level... intended to add some comfort.

ALL vehicles will rust sooner or later.... I second " get over it "

You had to respond to my post from a year and a half ago just to say that? Cool. Let your truck rust. Beat it up, it’s just a truck as you say.

The saying it’s just a truck is stupid. There’s a big different between a platinum and a 2wd regular cab work truck.
