My issue was I deployed to Afghanistan and after 14 days my Ford Pass sent me a message about deep sleep mode. I had the wife attempt to go start the truck but the dash would say "No Key Detected" after having her try a few things, I told her to lift the plastic mat out of the cup holder, drop the key fob in the slot and push the start button. Worked with no problem. Had her shut it off again without the fob in the cup holder and verify it starts again. So I guess it had something to do with proximity of the Key Fob for that first start. After that there has been no issues starting.

Thank you I forgot this part. If during deep sleep the vehicle and key fob are out of sync - you can put the fob in the emergency location (that notched home that I think is in the coin tray but it's spelled out in the manual.

for use when the fob battery is dead - and it should still work. I think but am unsure - if the vehicle goes into deep sleep mode it wants to see the last fob number (radio id number) it saw before it wants to start. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

OH and absolute worst case - pop the hood and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes or so. reconnect and it should reset.

might need a jump depending on if that battery did go flat - but again it shouldn't.

Question Deep Sleep Mode

I am having the same issue. I bought my truck back in June. It's a 2017 f150 xlt with the sport package.
Never had a problem till now.

My truck had only been inactive for 1 day which was boxing day. The next day my girlfriends family was leaving(as they came down to visit for christmas). They have pretty close to the same truck as me. Her uncle started his truck with his key fob and it started mine as well... Ever since then my FordPass app keeps telling me that my truck has entered Deep Sleep Mode.

Apparently it occurs after your vehicle is inactive for 14+ days... Only problem is my truck hasn't been sitting inactive for 14 days...
My guess is that maybe it is so cold out here right now (-34 degrees celcius) that it's entering deep sleep mode to help conserve the battery.

I just got the same message from the remote app so I will add my $.02. I have a SCREW 2018 Lariat. I live in Manhattan and don't drive the truck often, it will sometimes sit for weeks. The message I received tho also said, go and start the truck manually. I walked up to the truck, touched the door button, the truck unlocked, I got in and pressed the start button, and that was it. I immediately looked in the index to the manual, and didn't see anything about this. I was interested specifically to find out if there was a certain amount of time before it went into sleep mode. Also, and I could be wrong, I feel that the truck lost certain settings. For example, the steering wheel heater always was on, and now it wasn't. I had some friends in the car and wanted to show them how cool the text-to-voice feature was, so I have one of them text me. I didn't see it show up on the display so I manually went into the menus and hit the 'text' button. I got an error message about something not being synched.

Don't know if you read the rest of the thread.

Basically after so much time - to save the battery drain - the vehicle will power off most of the various electronic systems. first to come off is the wifi and bluetooth modules of the sync system - and then the sync system itself, along with a few other things. These things are what makes the ford pass bit work - so when they power off you lose that connection.

Since the sync and bluetooth is fully powered down - upon restart there is going to be a delay before it will re-pair with your mobile. MIght take a full 2 minutes or so - I forget how long. but you probably got used to it being near instant when you first got the truck - reason it was is because overnight the sync module stayed in sleep mode and the BT module (antenna and modem) stayed in low power seek mode.

Once the truck goes into deep sleep - all of those systems will act as though they are being powered on for the first time.

I have an XLT; it's almost what we used to call a stripper (no options. Thanks to 21st Century culture, however, a stripper means something else entirely!), so my truck has only Bluetooth, air conditioning and power windows and mirrors; very little of anything else, and I like it that way. Why? Because these additional features really work our starting batteries hard, that's why.

I would recommend that anyone who owns a newer, high-feature vehicle also purchase a modern, 3-step, microprocessor-controlled battery charger. Sears sells some made by Shumacher, and there are many other good brands of chargers.

Once a month hook that sucker up and top off your vehicle battery's SoC to 100%, especially if your routine driving involves daily short trips (not enough charge time from the engine alternator).

Battery, battery, battery! We live in an era where attention to our batteries' health is very important. That's all I got!

What and where is that Sears?

2017 F150 with 5.0... and I'm here to voice my complaints regarding "Deep Sleep Mode". Every single cold start with temps below zero, STARTING my truck puts it into the deep sleep mode. I've had my battery tested at the very first oil change. The battery tested good: 710CCA, rated for 610CCA. Battery fully charged. Again, starting sets the truck into "Deep Sleep Mode". I contacted Ford Pass customer service, as this is extremely annoying. Their staff said that the condition is set in 2 ways... the vehicle sits for at least 2 weeks, or you have a dead/dying/failing battery. Well, I certainly don't have those issues. I requested that this issue gets escalated. Weeks later, they call back stating that this is normal for the vehicle to put itself into "Deep Sleep Mode" while trying to start the vehicle in cold climates. Trying to call them back has been hectic, as I've been put on hold for over 30 minutes, but I don't have that patience to wait for an answer from someone who I know can't help me (and seemingly has no desire to).

So in summary, yes, they'll tell you to start the vehicle manually. But apparently starting the vehicle ALSO can put it into "Deep Sleep Mode"... and they deem this completely normal. Needless to say, I'm not happy. This thread is one of the very first results on google when you search this problem, so I figured... "what better place to make waves?!?!?!". I knew others had the same problem, and I want Ford to know that others aren't alone (heck, they even told me that I'm the VERY FIRST to complain about this particular issue).

Just read this entire thread -

1st comment: I don't blame the OP one bit for being pissed, to spend the kind of money these vehicles cost then not get a prompt and accurate answer regarding a question you have, but instead spend fruitless hours on the phone getting either "we don't know" or totally wrong answers - is absolutely inexcusable, full stop.

The fact that in the end it wasn't really a problem per se, is irrelevant.

2nd comment: The post I am quoting seems like more of the same. Ford reps saying it is normal for the vehicle to be put in deep sleep mode when starting in cold climates?? I call bullsh*t on that one. I bought a 2018 on Dec 29, I live in northern Canada and since then we've had many days of temps approaching -40, I've started it with FordPass many times, sometimes it's been plugged in (block heater) and sometimes it hasn't. Not once has it gone into "deep sleep mode".

It sounds like the FordPass customer service don't have a clue what's happening with JigaWatt's truck, so they just made something up..
