Default FordPass connection protocol

What does FordPass use to connect to the truck? By that, I mean my phone is using its connection to get to the Internet, but the truck has to have some way of connecting when it's off? When I picked up the truck we were staying in town, and the remote features worked fine. Now that I'm home I can't connect to the truck anymore. I'm assuming it's some kind of cellular signal. We have a T-Mobile signal booster in the house, so I can get service, but there's no cell service in the area.

The app is showing it was last updated 3 days ago, which is the last time I drove it in town. But the vehicle location is showing last updated yesterday, which is the last time I had the truck running.

In case it matters, 2020 XLT Sport.

I have a Samsung phone and Verizon cell service, my f150 has AT&T installed but I am not hooked up with them. My Ford Pass works on my 4g setup I think. I'm home a lot and I use Wi-Fi for internet in the house, haven't tried it on the road anywhere.

If it's the ATT cell network, can I put a booster in the house without actually having ATT service?

I have a Verizon network Extender in the house, otherwise I wouldn't have a signal at all. When the Verizon network is actually working, which lately is a crap shoot, I can connect to the truck really quickly. A booster probably can't hurt. Note : mine was free from Verizon as long as I stay on their service.

You've got some misunderstanding here.

Your truck uses the AT&T network, and yes - you are "hooked up with them". You may not have paid for the hotspot connection, but the truck's modem is using the AT&T network to connect.

When you are within range of a WiFi network, IF you setup the network on the truck, it will update via that network if there is an update. But it will still connect via the AT&T network at other times, and you have no control over that.

Your FordPass app on your phone is using whatever provider you are using with your phone at the time (your home WiFi or your Verizon network). When it goes to connect to the truck, the truck is communicating to FordPass via the AT&T modem inside it.

For what purpose? If you have WiFi in the house, you should setup your truck to connect with it. If not, when you're on the road and in range of the AT&T network, the truck will use it.

I have set up the truck to connect to my home Wifi, but it doesn't appear that it's updating its status to FordPass. I don't see the truck in the wireless modem status (it's not running at the moment). I'll start it up and look later to see if it's in the connected devices table.

Poor choice of words on my part when I used "hooked up." I meant I have no contract or service with them outside of the truck.

You are correct, it would not be updating its status to FordPass via your home WiFi, it's using the built-in AT&T modem. The WiFi connection is to update the truck's software, if there is an update.
