I've long wondered why people order F-series trucks, given the amount of inventory maintained by the dealership network. There are four For dealerships within 25 miles of me with a total of 500 (!) F-150s in stock. That's across trim levels and powertrain choices, of course, but it wasn't hard for me to find at least a handful with the options I wanted. And two of the dealers said they'd get me whatever I wanted through dealer trade if needed, without effecting negotiated price (employee purchase program with TRUECar pricing).

I totally understand if you want very specific options, or a specific color, etc; customer order is often the only way. But for many of the people I see commenting on their order, based on their sig, why not just buy from dealer stock?
I would MUCH rather have been able to choose from a dealer lot and be able to inspect and approve my choice...However there was not a KR of my spec ( 5.0, 3.73, FX4, tow, moonroof, 36 gal and w/o 601A pack) within 1500 miles.

Same here, Ingot silver Lariat screw 502a fx4 trailer tow 5.0 3.73, nothing unusual except the 3.73. could not find but one 1500 miles away and it was loaded.

I tweeted @Ford and @FordTrucks and asked them "What's the deal with the hold on F-150's at the KC plant? Don't like being in the dark & about to back out on a deal. #recalls??" Both of the twitter accounts had deleted my tweet as of noonish today. I was hoping to get a response from them but haven't received anything. My dealer is checking into it but hasn't gotten anywhere. Does anybody think the @FordService account on this forum would be able to help us? I'm not sure how to tag them in this thread.

They are helping you out, it's likely they're addressing an issue before the vehicles make transport. One less trip to the service department!

Ha Ha LOL, Ford Service, here is their response "Your dealership has the most recent information available; I recommend reaching out to them about this." I found a different truck similar to mine built a few days later and delivered 6 days after production of 8-21. The only difference was my order was FX4 and this one was 4x4. Maybe the Hill Descent electronics is the reason for these HOLDS. Anybody have just a 4x4 that is held?

I'm not getting any help, already sold my truck expecting this new one here yesterday. Now nobody can tell me when this new truck is coming , next week, Halloween, Thanksgiving, I need to know so I can plan for upcoming events or settle for a truck similar 10 hours away. Just tell me "we are fixing a problem it will be approx. 10 days" just give me a guesstimate. Its not that hard.

Contact the dealers Commercial Sales Manager, they usually have a good handle on deliveries and such. Good luck!
