At roughly 2,500 miles I've had my first mishap. I had a family member visit over the weekend. Backing around their car to make a store run. It happened. The damage is minor, mostly a scratch or two and the paint rubbed off at the lower cab corner. I was surprised to find this piece plastic. The other car fared much better.
The estimate is $900. Repaint where the buffing wont fix and clear coat the entire driver side.
At least I got it over with.
It's a truck -- it adds character. Besides, as soon as you pay to fix it, some old lady at the grocery store is going to side-swipe you anyway. Wait for her insurance!
I know.
I hate to drive around in a new truck like that. I'm sure I'm the only one who really knows its there unless you were looking for it. I am worried about the paint longer term IE clear coat delamination.
I am usually very careful of where I park and like to keep my stuff in good condition. When I traded by last 13 year old truck for this one, the dealer commented on how well I had taken care of it.
Unfortunately I has my first under 1000 miles. Cracked the windshield. $500
Be prepared for more. Bought my truck March 2015, I'm on my 3rd windshield and it's all cracked to hell and needs to be replaced. Worst glass I've ever had in a vehicle, and also the first vehicle for which I've every had to replace the windshield... Live in the same spot, work in the same spot, drive the same routes, but had my last vehicle for 8 years with only minor chip repairs. Sold it with the original windshield...

It happens and it will again. Better than someone backing into my Mustang two days after I got it.
You could be in the new Chevy commercial were they talk about how much better their trucks are because they are all scared up. Another "terrific" campaign by GM.

My '11 F-150 had about three chips in the windshield when I traded it in.
I got this one in Oct of '16 and got a big crack in the passenger side on New Years weekend just two months after getting the truck. Unless it starts creeping to my side or I get another big one I don't see the point in replacing it, since like you said they just get chipped and cracked again. Doesn't bother me too much.
Odd. I have 150,000 rural snowy gravely highway miles on my original windshield, and still have it now. It's pitted like crazy, and has about 14 repaired chips and one small crack from a chip, but otherwise has held up great. My past rigs never made it this far without needing a replacement. Best windshield glass I've ever had so far. Maybe they use different glass on different trucks.
