Default Error from USB?

So I got this weird error message today. "USB requires too much power. Unplug device." Then, "USB device not responding."

Any ideas?

I've restarted the vehicle a few times. The only thing I had plugged in was my cell phone.

BTW, my phone won't even charge. I am using the OEM cable.

I see the same thing often when I just have a usb thumb drive connected for music, but have not seen it when connecting my phone. Have you tried a USB drive to see if it gives you the same error?

My sync 3 also has the really annoying habit of randomly dropping the USB drive while playing from it. Then it will find it again a few seconds later. It makes listening to music of a USB drive impossible. I have tried everything from 16-64Gb drives, NTFS, exFAT, and FAT32 drive formats, and wav, mp3, and FLAC files. All the files play initially, regardless of drive, or format, but eventually forget themselves. Sometimes in a minute or two, sometimes ten. Arrrrgh.....

I'm getting the same thing. Worked before and has stopped. Using factory apple cable.

I've pulled the fuse. I've taken the dash apart and checked all connections. Other than replacing the hub which is my next step any other ideas?

btw I did the sync 3 upgrade so it isn't under warranty

I get it when I use a Samsung thumb drive..but after a few minutes it goes away and the thumb drive shows up and works just fine.

I get the same message with a generic no name DOK. No problems with the two Sandisk DOK's I'm using. My guess the USB controller in the Sync system is really finicky with communicating with the DOK controller.

For cell phone charging I have a dedicated 12v port USB power adapter plugged into the media center.

So I replaced the USB hub and it's still doing it. Only other thing I can think of is the cable. I used an eBay usb cable maybe I need to buy the Ford cable. Anybody know the part number?

I was getting the "USB device not responding" message, changed USB cables and its been fine. I actually got the message with the OEM LG cable then switched to a "high speed" cable off of amazon.

Fixed my issues by buying a different USB cable. All good now.
