Recently traded my 2015 Platinum with the 5.0 V8 for a '17 Raptor. Loved the sound and fuel economy of the 5.0. It was such a smooth and wonderful sounding motor. Now I have the Raptor and it's a rocketship. So powerful and torque-y, smooth as well but doesn't sound as melodious as the V8 did. I don't regret making the move at all but the difference between the two is interesting. Today, I have a loaner Lariat with the 2.7 while they do some minor warranty repair to the Raptor (leather seat) and I'm thinking the 2.7 liter is amazing too. Getting close to 20 mpg on the highway with it and it's very quick. I'm thinking if someone just needed a good stock truck the 2.7 is all they would ever need. Ford really doesn't have a bad choice in any of these options. I have to say I'm really impressed as most manufacturers usually have at least one option that kind of stinks.
the inherent design of the ecoboost makes it very raspy with a lot of exhaust systems. There are a few guys who have nailed some setups. Most involve offroad downpipes and a lot of owners dont want to do what comes with that.

I agree - went from a 2007 5.4 to a 2016 2.7 - and I wanted to dislike it - but it pulled harder in every aspect at every RPM, and the power band felt constant. When I arrived to test drive a couple F150's the only thing I was sure about were options and absolutely not wanting the 2.7 - needless to say, when I drove it, I absolutely loved it.
