Default Which Engine?

Was looking for some input on what engine to get in my next truck. It will be a daily driven work truck that will tow a 5 x 10 landscape trailer with 4 lawnmowers on it (about 400lbs) along with blowers and trimmers (not to much weight) and also 4 men will be in the truck. We make about 25 to 30 stops a day all within the city and never on the highway. I usually get the 5.0 with the snow plow package but I dont see myself putting a plow on this truck as I am slowly gettin out of snow removal. With the 5.0 I would say that I was still getting decent mileage about 500km on a tank (136L tank). The truck will be a Supercrew with a 6.5ft bed and 4x4. Thank you in advacance for any input. If you need anymore info just ask.

If you arent towing a lot, mostly city, and its a work truck, id get the regular V6 and save a few grand...second choice would be the 2.7

I don't think you can get the regular v6 in that configuration.

I'd be tempted to go with the heavy payload package which would put you into the 5.0. If you don't get the heavy payload package, I'd probably go with the 2.7. It's the strongest of the motor options and has usable torque at low rpm.

well what is your reason for switching engines? if it's for gas mileage then the 2.7 gets 2 mpg better and the 3.5 gets 1 mpg better than the 5.0 .. If its for more low end torque then the 3.5 is the better choice. If you tow on the highway a lot stick to the 5.0 it gives the best mpg with towing and is more consistent with towing

I don’t know anything about the base NA six, but the other three are all great choices. I have the 5.0, but would have been pleased as punch with either Ecoboost.

For your application I’d probably get the 2.7........ or whichever motor you can get the best deal on. 🙂

Honestly all 3 of the standard engines available are good and get about the same gas mileage.
the 3L diesel might get the best mileage but it's a $10K upgrade and somewhat difficult to find.

Might be better off focusing on body style and options you want and take whatever engine is in the truck that fits the bill. Just make sure you get a max tow package or better. Adding it later is expensive.

I have the 2.7L crew cab 4X4 and pull a 4,000# trailer with it no problem.

I was looking to get something with better gas mileage. I was wondering if the 2.7 was better for towing everyday. If all the engines are really close in mileage then I will stick with the 5.0. My current work truck does have the heavy duty package on it. Thanks for the info guys.

It's a truck towing 4,000 lbs with 4 men on board in strictly city driving, there is no hope for better gas mileage. If you're averaging in the double digits you're doing good.

If it were me, I'd get the 2.7L. Had one in a previous 2015. It's a good solid motor plenty of power and gets decent fuel mileage.
