So you can spend over $100 for those Sylvania's & still need fog lights to match, or spend $50 for all the Philips bulbs & get better quality & longer bulb life. If you do a search, you'll find that nobody (except PIAA, which are overpriced junk IMO) make a "high performance" H9 or 9011 bulb.....that's because they're already 2x as bright as a H11 & 9005 bulb. They literally can't make them any brighter without going to LED or HID. Just a thought.

Great. Thank you for the info. I'll probably go with the Philips then as long as the other reviews are good. I know that total money spent doesn't meant high quality so I'm glad I posted this.

Yes, there is a reason for the intensity from the factory...question is whether it is because higher intensity is a problem or that they were able to get a better deal on the lamps they use or because the lower intensity bulbs generally last longer...

Don't assume something was done for a performance reason, lots of things are done due to price when something else would have worked a little better. Nickels and dimes add up when you have thousands of parts and build hundreds of thousands of vehicles a year...

I did this mod yesterday before work, first its super simple, I found a good sharp exacto blade is best for the bulb mods and a good pair of side cutters for the metal part of the low beam bulb. I work evenings therefore I always drive home at night from work, so I think I have a good way of comparing since Ive been doing this exact road for the last 5years at night. I got my 2015 last week and noticed the lights were actually not bad especially compared to my previous 2004. However thanks to this site I had already ordered and received the bulbs to do the mod so I went ahead and did it. Last night driving home I was excited to try them out.

The best I can describe is the low beam and fog lights are improved, crisp lights and are excellent for in town driving and the best part is that you get the same light dispersed evenly, just brighter. The cut off is still there and the light is not washed away, this will be a great type of light when its raining at night and there is oncoming traffic so you cant use your high beams. Speaking of high beams... WOW what a difference, I soon as I got on to my really dark back country roads I flicked them on and couldn't believe the difference, very bright and very far reach, crystal clear white light, no blue hue whatsoever. So if you don't want to spend money on retro fits, or if like me you want the stock look, no aftermarket cheap HID kits that make it impossible to see anything in the rain, this modification is for you. Hope this helps the ones who were on the fence with this mod.

Exacto blade & side cutters, please explain, thought this was just a plug and play bulb swap?

I've done the 'cheapo crappy HID kits' on many vehicles and never had a problem with them. The problem is that most people don't bother to check their headlights when they have the stock bulbs in them. The factory alignment on my previous Ram that I traded for this F150 was almost as if it was right hand drive.

Especially these trucks with the forward cap in the bulb housing, and the angles of the housing itself, I plan to add HID in the halogen housing and do not anticipate any glare issues. I'll also likely add them to the fogs, as much as I love the Morimotos $200 is just too damn expensive when I can get an HID kit for $50.

Not quite but almost. Literally takes 5mins a bulb to do the conversion and nothing is touched on the truck. The bulbs you purchase need to be modified slightly(shaving material off the locking tabs)

do yourself a favor and Google H11 to H9 Mod & 9005 to 9011. The subaru forums have been doing this for a while now. It really is a difference. I purchased the bulbs off of amazon, Phillips standards H9 and 9005.

My experience with HIDs without retrofits has been less than ideal. These Phillips bulbs have a much better and usable light output.

Just because I like to always verify stuff before I buy... When i go to the links provided for the phillips bulbs amazon throws up a red flag saying "these will not fit your vehicle" .. That doesn't really matter, right?
